Hi Caroline,<br><br>First, we want to say that we genuinely sympathize with what you're going through. It’s never easy to face serious health challenges with a beloved pet, and we sincerely hope Murphy’s upcoming surgery goes smoothly and brings him the relief and mobility he deserves.<br><br>We do feel it’s important, however, to clarify the timeline to ensure accuracy. You signed your service contract on June 3rd, 2025, and the invoice was sent after the contract was signed, on the same day. Your payment was made on June 16th, nearly two weeks later, officially securing your reservation for July 10th—just over three weeks from the payment date.<br><br>On June 23rd, just *2 weeks* from your originally scheduled start date, you contacted us with concerns about the weather. In response, we worked with you to reschedule for October 14th. On July 25th—about 11 weeks before the new October date—you reached out again with concerns about Murphy’s condition, and we have been working with you in good faith.<br><br>Furthermore, we’d like to clarify our position regarding your cancellation and the deposit.<br><br>When you enrolled Murphy in our four-week training program, you voluntarily submitted a 50% deposit of $1,850 3 weeks ahead of the scheduled start date. While the contract allows for payment at drop-off, many clients choose to pay early to confirm their spot. Regardless of timing, our agreement—signed before an invoice was issued—clearly states that all deposits are non-refundable.<br><br>This policy is not meant to be punitive. It exists to maintain the operational integrity of our business. Once a reservation is made, we allocate staff, reserve limited space, and turn away other clients. Cancellations represent a significant loss of opportunity and resources that we cannot always recover from.<br><br>While we understand that Murphy's health situation prompted the cancellation, it's important to note that he has not yet undergone surgery, and as such, it’s premature to conclude that the originally scheduled services will no longer be beneficial. In fact, canine total hip replacement is considered one of the most successful orthopedic procedures in veterinary medicine, with a success rate exceeding 95%. The majority of dogs return to an active, often better-than-before quality of life after recovery.<br><br>Because of this, and because behavioral and obedience challenges typically remain even after physical issues are addressed, the training you originally booked may still be entirely appropriate once Murphy is cleared by your veterinary team. We have committed to honoring the full value of your deposit as a credit for training services once Murphy has recovered and is ready to resume activity safely.<br><br>Additionally, we are more than willing to tailor Murphy’s future training program to focus on his specific post-recovery condition—including (but not limited to) cognitive enrichment, behavioral support, and mental stimulation, in addition to obedience and calmness work. These elements can play a critical role in helping a dog adjust to life after surgery, both physically and emotionally.<br><br>While we respect your veterinarian’s viewpoint, there are many trainers, veterinary rehabilitation specialists, and pet owners who believe that well-designed, post-surgical training enhances quality of life and long-term success. We remain confident that Murphy can continue to benefit from a structured training program once he's healed.<br><br>We truly regret that you’re disappointed, and we hope this explanation helps clarify our policies and intentions.
