My family has never had a dog before and we want the experience to be positive for the dog and us. We end up adopting a rescue, Gabby, who was pretty terrified of everything and everyone from leaves to people, including us. She would tremble and shake, cower and tuck her tail between her legs. She would run away from my husband. She couldn’t take a treat from us. We called Kate, from K9 Kate Dog Training, to figure out how to get her comfortable with us and her world. This was the best money I’ve spent on Gabby to date. Kate. Kate is AMAZING. She is a translator for you to understand what your dog is feeling and expressing in real time. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to do with a dog who is scared. Kate broke down how to work with our dog at her pace; what milestones to expect, what to look out for to keep moving forward together. Kate kindly encouraged our entire family to get on the same page so that Gabby began to understand our commands. Our results: Gabby now happily lays next to my husband- who she used to run from. She now walks calmly on a loose leash- she’s not freaked out by every little thing. When Gabby is scared- I KNOW- and can take steps to reassure and calm her down. Because of Kate we went from dog novices to responsible dog owners. We know our dog so much better than had we just decided to ‘wing it’ without any training. Gabby isn’t done evolving but I am now confident that our family will walk beside her and encourage her to be the best dog possible.
