How do you train a puppy not to bite and chew on people and clothing? I have told him no and given him a toy to chew on, but he is not picking up on either.
Your puppy has no idea what the word no means and giving him a toy to chew is the worst thing to do. A toy to the puppy is a reward just like a treat. So you're intentionally rewarding him on his behavior and will continue to do so. I suggest take some puppy classes at Kathy Santos. I have a 10 month old puppy that I have been taking there since he was 2 months old, alot of his bad habits (one of his habits was nipping at people) we have successfully stop but a few we are still working on. Kathy Santos dog training has helped alot.

KSDT is located in Ramsey, NJ but there is an online forum where you can ask questions, grt training tips and more. You can also sign up for online training program and there is someone always available to answer your specific questions and needs.

I am so happy that I found Kathy Santo Dog Training. My three year-old dog is excellent at learning and following commands in the home, however, We needed to find an environment that would help build her confidence in doing things when there are other dogs, and people, and distractions around. Lauren, Kay, and Kathy and all the other trainers at the school have been fantastic with helping me and my dog learn how to relate better when we’re in public. A new puppy just came home to join the family and she will absolutely be starting with the puppy package as soon as she has all of her vaccinations!

Training taught us how to bond, how to communicate, and how to truly understand each other.
DIYA was originally considered a “cautious canine,” but today she is full of confidence. She has become one of the most well-behaved dogs I’ve ever had — all thanks to Kathy Santo Dog Training School.
Just like children, dogs need to be taught. If I’m going to spend the next 15 years or more with my dog, I want the best relationship possible. I don’t want to correct my dog for something I never taught, or accidentally teach the wrong behavior without realizing it. Training solved all of that.

Group classes are such an amazing way to keep improving my bond with my dogs and stay consistent in their training. Playcare is a great and SAFE option for them to socialize while I’m working or just out for a busy day. And the boarding is the best. They get to play all day at KSDT then go home with a trainer at night. All of their feeding and meds instructions are followed to a T and I know they are well cared for and all dog interactions are closely supervised and fun.
