How do you train a puppy not to bite and chew on people and clothing? I have told him no and given him a toy to chew on, but he is not picking up on either.
Your puppy has no idea what the word no means and giving him a toy to chew is the worst thing to do. A toy to the puppy is a reward just like a treat. So you're intentionally rewarding him on his behavior and will continue to do so. I suggest take some puppy classes at Kathy Santos. I have a 10 month old puppy that I have been taking there since he was 2 months old, alot of his bad habits (one of his habits was nipping at people) we have successfully stop but a few we are still working on. Kathy Santos dog training has helped alot.

KSDT is located in Ramsey, NJ but there is an online forum where you can ask questions, grt training tips and more. You can also sign up for online training program and there is someone always available to answer your specific questions and needs.

Our experience with Kathy Santo Dog School has been amazing. This isn't just a place to drop off your dog for play/training/boarding. Kathy and her team have helped us raise 2 Bernese Mountain Dogs. Our 1st was Theo, he was happy and well trained. We always boarded him with a KSDT trainer. At the age of 4 1/2 we were away when his trainer Lauren noticed something was wrong. He was taken to BCVC and diagnosed with Histiocytic Sarcoma, an aggressive and terminal cancer. We flew home immediately and were able to spend 3 weeks with him before he passed. Kathy was with us every step of the way. Three weeks later we were blessed with Oliver, another BMD. At first he was a Piranha disguised as a Bernese, Kathy and her team got us through that too! Oliver is now 3 and the excitement he displays when Martyne or Kaylee from transport pick him up in the am speaks volumes. We are very thankful to Kathy and her team! Couldn't do this without you guys!

Everyone there is incredibly helpful and patient, every class we take something home to work on and implement right away. Price is amazing value and all the extra materials she sends us keeps us accountable and on task for training our puppy at home. Can’t recommend it enough!

Our dog Dante did a board and train for a month at KSDT. Would highly recommend this service to anyone who is wondering if it’s worth it. Our dog came back to us so well behaved. We really needed him to walk nicely on a leash and a good place command. We got that and much more! We will be students for life!

I couldn’t be happier with Kathy Santo and her amazing staff. Lily has been training there for 2 years — she’s completed Academy, E-collar, and now attends Saturday classes and Agility. About 6 months ago, Lily’s parents had their last litter, giving us the chance to bring home her true sibling. On our pick day, Kathy even took the time to FaceTime with us to help choose Rosie.
Rosie is now in Academy with Kay and in Saturday classes with Kathy, and we are just as thrilled with her progress. The biggest testament to their training is the constant compliments we receive on both dogs — their temperament, behavior, and how well-trained they are.
I couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible work Kathy and her team have done with Lily and Rosie. I highly recommend!
