Kodiak K9 Training

We had a great experience with my bloodhound Billie’s board and train program through Kodiak. The main focus was improving her leash handling and overall obedience, and we were very impressed with the progress she made. Throughout the process, Jake and family didn’t just focus on training Billie—they made a genuine effort to include her as part of their home, which made us feel very comfortable knowing she was in great hands. In addition, we received daily progress updates and lessons on what she was taught for the day, which gave a great insight. Billie came home happy, more obedient, and much better on the leash. We’re extremely happy with the training and would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and caring trainer!

We had a really great experience with Kodiak K9. When we adopted Penny, our black and tan coonhound, from a shelter, we knew she had a great personality, but she also came with some habits that were making life a little difficult. She would try to dart out the door whenever someone came in or left, pulled like crazy on walks, and still had the occasional accident in the house. Brad, the owner, took the time to talk with us about Penny and gave us a few different board-and-train options. We ended up choosing Audrey as her trainer. Audrey specializes in German Shepherd and police-style training using positive reward and reinforcement, which was a really good fit for us and for Penny. The difference when Penny came home was honestly pretty amazing. She was housebroken, could actually walk nicely on a leash, and understood how to stay in her place. (For the most part 😂 She is still a coonhound, after all.) The biggest thing we’ve learned, though, is that the board-and-train wasn’t a magic fix. We had to change our lifestyle too. She’s a young dog, so we’ve made daily walks and working with her part of our routine. We reinforce what she learned and try to stay consistent. I really think that consistency is what has made the training continue to work. It’s been about two months now, and we’ve been able to do things with Penny that we honestly weren’t sure we’d ever be able to do. We’ve taken her hiking with no issues, brought her to breweries and other places, and can give her off-leash freedom in appropriate settings without her immediately taking off. She’s also been great around other dogs and people and is much less reactive. She’s definitely not perfect. She has absolutely not outgrown her coonhound personality, and we’ve already had the joy of discovering that a stuffed animal apparently needed its entire face removed. 😂 But those are the funny little things that come with having Penny, and now we have the tools to handle the bigger stuff. We’re really grateful to Brad and Audrey. The training gave us a foundation, and the work we’ve continued to put in has made such a difference. Penny is still Penny, just a much better-behaved version of herself, and we’re able to include her in so much more of our lives now. 🐾

When I was researching board-and-train programs, I read all of the 5-star reviews for Kodiak K9 and honestly assumed they had to be too good to be true. I was wrong. Our experience exceeded every expectation, and I can't say enough positive things about Kodiak K9,especially Audrey, our trainer. We rescued our now 2-year-old Bernedoodle, Auggie, about a year ago. He's incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loves every person and dog he meets, but he had absolutely no idea how big he was. Walks were a constant battle with pulling and eating everything in sight. He jumped on everyone who gave him attention, including knocking our 6-year-old daughter into the wall when she came home from school. He would barrel down the stairs like a bowling ball, making us genuinely worried about elderly family members visiting. Our goals were simple: calmer walks, better manners with visitors, giving us space during meals, and being able to confidently bring him to dog-friendly public places. From the beginning, Corey at Kodiak K9 was responsive, knowledgeable, and honest. He returned my call within hours, listened carefully to our concerns, and recommended the two-week program instead of the three-week option I was prepared to pay for because he believed that was all Auggie needed. That level of integrity immediately stood out. Corey also coordinated everything around a planned family vacation so we could avoid paying for additional boarding and matched us with Audrey. Audrey was exceptional from day one. She communicated clearly, sent recommendations before Auggie even arrived, and handled both pickup and drop-off from our home. Throughout the two weeks, she kept us updated with photos and videos showing Auggie's progress. Knowing our goal was to include Auggie in our daily life, she intentionally trained him in real-world environments like stores and coffee shops. About a week into training, Audrey sent us a video of Auggie holding "place" while a package of hot dogs sat directly in front of him. We were absolutely stunned. When Auggie came home, Audrey spent as much time with us as we needed, making sure we understood how to continue his training. She practiced with us inside the house and on walks and emphasized that she was always available to answer questions or come back if we needed additional help. The results were immediate. On his very first day home, a repair technician came over, and Auggie calmly stayed in "place" until we released him. Friends have visited without him charging the door or jumping on them. Walks are enjoyable now, and he'll even respond to "heel" when he spots a rabbit. The staff at his doggy daycare commented on the transformation too, they noticed that instead of rushing the gate whenever new dogs arrive, he now waits calmly before greeting them. We've even taken him to a restaurant where he relaxed quietly at our table instead of trying to visit every other guest. What impresses me most is that Audrey didn't change who Auggie is, she simply helped him become the best version of himself. He's still the goofy, loving, playful dog we adore, but now he has the skills to be calm, focused, and safe when it matters. My only regret is that we didn't do this sooner. If you're considering Kodiak K9, stop debating and book it. It was one of the best investments we've made for both our dog and our family.
