Lara's Canine Solutions (New Braunfels)

We have a very loveable, gentle, goofy and extremely independent Great Pyrenees/Great Dan mix. We brought Kyo to Laura’s Canine Solutions after a series of events that made us realize our 100 pound puppy needed some extra training. We did basic commands at home and socialized him well. However his size alone mixed with his young puppy behaviors became an issue. He was slowly trying to work his way up the dominance chain in our home, starting with our son. While he was never aggressive we noticed signs of resource guarding that were gradually getting worse. Taking our pup out became more and more of a shore as he became stronger. Walking him on a leash was a chore, and honestly he was walking us. He began doing small things I thought were cute, like snuggling on the couch, but then getting more and more stubborn, like refusing to get off the couch. We also live on a bit of land and recall was becoming more like a choice than a command. Recalling him safely back in at night was turning into me running out side shaking bags of treats trying to get him inside. I didn’t realize how much stress all of these little things caused until none of them were an issue anymore. We did 4 weeks in total training split into 2, 2 week segments. The first 2 weeks was all on leash, obedience training. Really teaching Kyo what was expected out of him and where stands on the dominance chain… the bottom lol. We noticed a huge change in his demeanor and immediately started taking him out more and more with us. The second 2 weeks were all off leash recall training, which we use daily with him! Knowing that with one command we can keep ourselves, our dog and others safe is a huge weight off our shoulders. We no longer have to please with a massive puppy to come back inside, leave the creek, or come to us instead of chasing after a deer. The two training sessions really complimented each other. Having time in between them was great as it gave us time to work on the first set of commands and get Kyo used to what was expected at home. The second training was really the icing on the cake for us. While he still has his puppy moments and is still incredibly stubborn and goofy, we have the tools we need to help him thrive and to make our home a calm environment. The competition with the dog and our son is slowly getting better and we are confident that as we continue putting into place the tools we have that they will only become better friends. We feel that we learned just as much about our dog as our dog did during training. My husband and I both agreed if we ever brought another dog into the house we would send them to Laura’s Canine Solutions first. Our only regret was not reaching out sooner! They do fill up so don’t hesitate to call and get on a waiting list. We’re so insanely grateful for the board and train program they offer and I recommend them to everyone I know!
