I originally found Liberty Canine through their Georgia location while searching for a quality trainer for my Pudelpointer, EKO. I had previously used a well-respected trainer in Texas and was fully prepared to make the drive to Georgia because I wasn’t willing to compromise on quality. After speaking with Randall, he recommended I meet with Nick since he was only about an hour and a half from my home in Middle Tennessee. That recommendation couldn’t have been better. From the moment I met Nick, it was obvious he knew exactly what he was doing. His knowledge, professionalism, and confidence immediately put me at ease. His training property is outstanding, with beautiful fields, well-maintained running lanes, a training pond, and, most importantly, an abundance of birds. As someone who was completely new to the bird dog world, I honestly didn’t understand just how important birds were to developing a finished hunting dog. I assumed much of the training would involve bumpers and artificial drills. Instead, Nick works his dogs on live birds nearly every day using homing pigeons and quail. Seeing EKO develop through consistent exposure to real birds completely changed my understanding of what quality bird dog training should look like. When EKO was a year and a half old, we enrolled him in Liberty Canine’s eight-week board-and-train program. He already had a solid foundation with basic obedience, good recall, and was comfortable working on an e-collar, but we knew he had much more potential. I’ll admit, leaving him for eight weeks was much harder than I expected, but I knew it was the right investment in his future. Throughout the program, communication was exceptional. Every week we received detailed updates with photos and videos, and anytime we were missing our boy and asked for an extra picture or video, Nick was always quick to respond. He never once made us feel like we were bothering him. Knowing EKO was in great hands made those eight weeks much easier. The go-home session was incredibly thorough. Nick didn’t just hand me my dog and send me on my way—he spent the time making sure I understood the training and gave me plenty of hands-on practice. By the end, my brain was definitely overloaded, but only because there was so much valuable information. I remember driving home thinking, “I hope I don’t mess this up.” Looking back now, I realize Nick had prepared both EKO and me for success. The transformation in EKO has been remarkable. The obedience he came in with has been refined beyond what I thought possible, and Nick returned to us a highly driven, steady, confident bird dog. The difference between the dog we dropped off and the dog we brought home is incredible. It is obvious that every single day of those eight weeks was purposeful and productive. If you’re serious about developing your hunting dog and want a trainer who genuinely cares about both you and your dog, I cannot recommend Nick, Randall, and the entire Liberty Canine team highly enough. Their knowledge, communication, professionalism, facilities, and dedication are second to none. Choosing Liberty Canine has been one of the best investments we’ve ever made in EKO. We recently had our 2-year-old male Weimaraner, Brutus, at Liberty Canine in Tennessee for a 3-month bird dog training program, and I cannot say enough about our experience. To be completely honest, Brutus was not properly prepared by us before arriving, which created some early challenges. There were moments in those first few weeks where my husband and I questioned whether this was going to work at all. He is a strong-willed dog who seemed to think he was more human than canine, and we admittedly struggled to trust the process at first. That said, Randall and Nick are truly masterful trainers. I don’t use that word lightly. Their patience, consistency, and expertise are exceptional. Nick, in particular, worked through every obstacle with a calm, steady approach that ultimately brought out the best in Brutus. Once Brutus worked through his “temper tantrum” phase and understood that he was not in control, his progress accelerated quickly. The transformation was impressive. Communication throughout the process was excellent. We received consistent updates, including detailed weekly emails outlining his progress, which gave us confidence and insight along the way. When we picked Brutus up, it was clear he had been well cared for. He was comfortable in the environment, bonded with his trainer, and still just as connected to us, which had been a concern. The property itself is also beautiful, with 29 acres that provide an ideal training setting. The foundation that Liberty Canine has built for Brutus is invaluable. With the guidance and recommendations Nick provided, we feel fully equipped to continue reinforcing what has been established. I highly recommend Liberty Canine for training, bird dog development, obedience, and even boarding. They exceeded our expectations in every way. This will absolutely be our go-to for any future dogs. There is so much to say about these guys. Liberty Canine understands the science and physiology behind training dogs. They will take your dog and make them the best companions you could ever have. Whether it is a hunting dog or a best friend, they will shape the dog into perfection. I love how they give you weekly reports on how your buddy is doing.
