When we met Lori, our young German Shepard had excellent obedience, but was distrustful of other dogs and people. He would react with a lot of barking which scared people and other dogs. We would just avoid those situations. Lori asked us if we were interested in creating a dog that we could take anywhere. Off leash around other people and dogs without the reactivity? This was not even on our minds, as we did not think it was achievable. During the training, it became clear that the dog was not the problem, we were. He felt his job was to protect us, at all times, even when we didn’t need it. His protectiveness was taking over and we didn’t know how to communicate to him our expectations of him the right way. The realization I think is the hardest for dog lovers to accept, as just loving your dog is not enough. Dogs understand confidence, leadership and structure. Love is important too but you have to love at the correct time otherwise they can become unbalanced. Which our dog clearly was before training. After we had been taught how to read our dog, we were able to communicate with him to where he would understand. Lori’s deep love and understanding of dog’s behavior makes her great teacher for dog owners. After training with Lori, our 3yr old German Shepard, goes to beaches, parks every week. He gets along with everyone. He receives praises for his exceptional behavior and is now living life to the fullest. More than we ever dreamed of! Lori, we are forever grateful to you, you opened up a whole new world for us, a world of freedom and happiness for us and our dog.
