This used to be a 5 star review, but love for dogs has unfortunately gone down hill in the years since we first started taking our dog here. You can smell the dog odors from the street, and our dog often smells like urine when she gets home. The staff we were impressed with are no longer there. It used to be worth the above average price tag, but we now only use LFD as a last resort.

I had a really bizarre experience with this business. My dog's main daycare is downtown (dogtopia) but we waned to have a daycare option in this side of town. I called to schedule a temperament test for my 1-year-old pitbull mix and immediately heard a lack of enthusiasm for my dog when I mentioned that he is a pitbull. My husband dropped Kirby off for the temperament test and he was thrown off when three staff members approached Kirby simultaneously with treats making our dog nervous. Also my husband mentioned that my dog was able to get loose from their grip on the leash twice before they were able to bring him back, which made the staff come across as nervous and inexperienced. We left our dog at the facility for a few hours while we waited for a phone call about how Kirby did on his test - we never received one. Later that evening we picked Kirby up as a family (we brought my 3 year old with us, Kirby and our daughter are besties) and upon entering we got what I can only describe as a dirty look from the woman working the front desk - no hello, no welcome - she just turned around and went to the back of the place. She came out with Kirby and who I think is the behaviorist (she did not introduce herself) and spent about 3 minutes telling us how Kirby is not a good fit for the daycare. She alluded to Kirby having aggressive behavior - he does not, he does get anxious around anxious people, though - I do too. She told us that he is not a good fit for this daycare and they handed us post it with the name of a trainer (?) and their phone number on it. They did all of this out loud in front of other customers who gave us a combination of concerned and judgemental looks. I don't know why social shaming was a necessary component to this interaction - most daycares I have interacted with (my dogs have gone to 7+ daycares over the years) tend to either call in advance or have a private conversation about behavior. Also, neither of my dogs have ever been rejected from a daycare ever. I was also confused that Love for Dogs recommended an outside trainer, since they advertise their dog training throughout their website. All of this is to say that my sense is that this business has zero customer service capabilities or professionalism in their staff, that they have some sort of bias against pit bulls, and that they have no interest in growing their business by engaging potential customers in a way that is helpful and proactive. I feel like we dogdged a bullet here.

1/25/26- This review reflects my personal experience and opinion, which I am fully within my rights to share; I am directing you to remove my name from public responses and will be addressing this matter through Google's review policies. 1/20/26 UPDATE- Here are the facts, when I decided to use you for training you had a rating of 4.9. Your rating has dropped by .2 points in less than one year and is now a 4.7. This is what google says about a loss of .2 points "Dropping a Google Business Profile rating by .2 points in under a year requires a consistent, rapid, and sustained accumulation of 1-3-star reviews that heavily outweighs any positive, 5-star feedback." For whatever reason customer satisfaction and meeting client expectations was no longer a priority of your company. Your employee issues are irrelevant to my dissatisfaction. I am in customer service. I go above and beyond to reconcile a customer complaint. I spoke with one of the owners, Zachary, in May. He said he could not confirm if my dog received the training I requested. It's convenient of you many months later to respond to me and now say everything was done correctly and to avoid commenting on him. The owner guaranteed a refund, then also conveniently never took my calls or answered my texts after that. FACT. The messages say delivered. So again, customer satisfaction is not a priority of yours. I would never treat my customers like this. I don't understand why you think I would want to return to your business. I have experienced dishonesty and unresponsiveness. 11/18/25 UPDATE Please see my original and updated review. I grew up in the Northside and don’t want others to be deceived by this company just because it’s “close to home”. When I first picked Love for Dogs they had a 4.9 rating with 2 bad reviews. In less than 6 months they have dropped to a 4.7 with multiple bad reviews. Update 6/2/25: Changing my review to 1 star. I would give 0 if I could. This is a very upsetting and disappointing situation. After Memorial Day the owner Zachary reached out to discuss the call I had received from one of their past employees. Honestly, Zachary seemed very receptive to my feedback and genuine about the situation. I felt he would follow through with what he said he would do and now I seem to have been ghosted. I have asked twice for an update on the resolution....and mind you nothing long...just a "can I please get an update". Nothing from Zachary, or the Whatsapp feed (Love for Dogs communicates through Whatsapp). Here is the issue in short, I was contacted by a past trainer who worked with my pup. He said my dog did not receive the training I paid for. Management made him meet with me because they were afraid I would be "hostile". The meeting actually went great, we were all respectful and kind. This trainer felt so bad for me that he saved my number. This scenario really is a "he said she said" but like I explained to Zachary, I feel deceived and lied to. Since this is a "he said she said" situation I asked for video proof of the training in question since all other training videos were so descriptive and Zachary had several reasons as to why this specific training would not be available on video. Zachary said the owners (including him) have not been very present with the company lately due to personal reasons. This is reflected with all the recent 1 star reviews. I DO NOT recommend this company. I have been transparent and reasonable with them since day 1. This is not how you treat customers. I'm grateful for the past trainer reaching out to me to make me aware so I can share this with everyone. Look elsewhere when you do your search. We love Love For Dogs! I’ve been bringing my two golden retrievers here for about a year now and it’s just what we need. We do the overnight boarding when we go out of town and it’s great to get photos and videos of them twice per day playing outside and having fun with the other dogs. Highly recommend this spot for boarding!
