How can I get my dog to stop barking ?
First, we will identify the root cause of the barking. It is not always what you might perceive it to be. For example, a dog might bark any time a guest enters your home. This does not mean that the dog is aggressive, or that the dog doesn't like people. This may actually stem from a lack of confidence and the need for clear boundaries. Barking is more than a physical reaction- together, we will discover the mental/emotional process behind the barking, and address the root cause head-on.

How do I get my dog to stop jumping up on people?
A dog that feels rewarded for a certain behavior will continue that behavior. In most instances, a dog that jumps is a dog that has been ''rewarded'' for doing it too many times to know that it is not something you want. Rewards can include the way that you excitedly speak to the dog or pet the dog during the behavior. If the dog is only rewarded with affection and attention once they have settled, they will learn to settle. I can help you initiate this change. It involves clear boundaries with house guests- if someone comes in your home and your dog tries to jump up and greet them, the person needs to ignore the dog until it calms back down. Petting or speaking sweetly to the dog will reinforce to them that the person is happy they are being jumped on. It takes self control around cute puppies !

How do I know if my dog has separation anxiety?
Separation Anxiety will manifest itself when your dog is left alone. Typical signs are excessive barking, destructive behaviors, and signs of distress like hyperventilation. Your dog should be confident and content enough that you can leave them/leave the house for hours in a day without worry. They should be able to relax without depending on your presence in order to do so. Depending on the severity of the Separation Anxiety, working through this can be a process, but is a highly beneficial one. The results will impact your happiness and your dogs happiness for the rest of your life together.

Why is my dog so hyper, and how do I calm them down ?
Owners often confuse a lack of mental stimulation and the inability to ''self-settle'' with a dog that is hyper-active or overly excitable. The desired result can be achieved by teaching your dog to rest, and by ensuring that they receive both mental and physical energy outlets throughout the day. I teach these things regularly.

Brock has been great with helping our four-year old MHS rescue work through some dog reactivity issues. We’ve seen big improvements after only a couple of sessions, and look forward to learning more. He truly cares about his clients and calls to check in and give additional advice. I love the fact that we can do training at our own pace, and he doesn’t require an up-front package or requirement to complete sessions within a certain amount of time. He also offers adventure pickups. Our girl has had a couple of adventure training sessions on days that I worked off island, and Brock sent me videos of their adventures and interactions with other dogs and sent text updates after he dropped her off at home. He truly has a special gift, and I highly recommend his services.
