Mavis K9 Academy

We brought our 1 year old chocolate lab to Greg for the 2 week board and train program. We had been struggling with our lab being a BIG puller while on walks, not being able to take him to public places because of his pulling and reactivity, and he had no recall or place skills at all. In the short two weeks, our lab made a HUGE transformation! We are now able to walk side by side (heel) with our lab and even our young children are able to do so which had never happened before! Our lab also got exposure to different places around town to help with his reactivity and he has learned place and recall! Greg sent us daily videos and answered any questions we had along the process. He has shared so much knowledge and has given us the tools to help keep up the training at home so that we can continue to build our relationship with our dog. We are so grateful for the time he spent with our lab. He went above and beyond during the two weeks he had our lab and is willing to help us in the future if we need it! We can tell he has a love and passion for working with dogs! We highly recommend his services!

Would NOT recommend for potty or crate training!! Greg also made me and my friend very uncomfortable with his comments. The main goal of sending my dog to the 2-week board & train was to get him crate and potty trained (both outlined on the website as something that Greg can train). I had an initial phone call with Greg emphasizing the need for these two things and told him the basic obedience training (sit, stay, etc.) were at the lowest priority. When it came time for drop off, I brought the crate with me and asked if it was needed. He answered with “no I should be okay without it”. The daily update videos were mainly focused on commands “place” and “sit” with no emphasize on crate or potty training (like I asked). I asked multiple times throughout the process how his crate training and potty training was and my dog was still having accidents in the kennel until the last few days of training. At the end my dog was able to go into the kennel on his own but this is much different than a smaller crate that I wanted him trained in to begin with. When I brought my dog home he was behaving in the crate the same way, crying in the crate, pottying in the crate and in the house. Nothing changed besides the fact that he can now sit and understands “place”. During the training sessions Greg also made myself and my friend that I brought with me uncomfortable. He made comments like “if I were to touch you, what would you do?” when trying to explain how to get a dog to not jump on people by stepping towards them, invading their space. I told him I was an engineer and during one of the sessions he made a rude comment like “you must not be a process engineer” because I didn’t follow instructions in the same exact order that I was told. Throughout the two sessions Greg made me feel very uncomfortable and uneasy. Overall, I would not recommend Greg for anything crate training or potty training related because he was not able to help at all. The most I got out of the sessions was an insult.

Greg was very easy to work with and learn from. We took our newly adopted dog, Titan, a 3 year old XXL Bully to Mavis K9 academy for training. We knew going in that the training outcome really depends on us just as much as it does Titan or Greg. If you listen to what he’s telling you & the tips he’s giving you & go home & practice with your dog & family, you will see results. You must have patience, it doesn’t happen overnight. Everyone has to put the work in. We learned a lot from Greg in just 5 Mondays of training. He was always willing to answer questions outside of class & even now after we are done. We did the one on one in person classes with Greg at Mavis K9 Academy. I definitely recommend his one on one classes over group classes at other facilities.

I highly recommend Greg as a trainer/boarding. We have a stubborn dog that was giving us a run for our money and he has worked wonders and we now have a well behaved dog that is manageable and learned the tools we need for her to succeed! He really takes the time to explain and sends updates so you’re along for the training when your dog is boarded. I can’t say enough great things! Thank you Greg!!!
