Jim was so knowledgeable and responsive to our dog’s needs. He listened attentively to all of the background I provided when feeling desperate in our situation, and gave expert advice explaining behavior and what was likely at the root of behavior. We met for a session and he demonstrated methods to practice at home that were effective. Jim really communicates well and wants to help families with their dogs for a successful and happy home. Most of all, he cares about what he does and has a big heart in helping pups and their people.

When I rescued Wendy, my Boerboel Mastiff, from our local animal shelter, I knew I was taking on a challenge. It appeared she had been used for breeding and had never been properly socialized. She was extremely reactive to people, and because of her behavior, the shelter was considering euthanasia because no one was willing to adopt her. I brought her home with a lot of hesitation and uncertainty. From the very beginning, Jim took the time to talk me through the challenges we were facing. He taught me how to safely manage Wendy’s behavior while protecting both her and my family. His calm approach, patience, and knowledge gave me the confidence I needed to keep working with her instead of giving up. Today, Jim is continuing to work with Wendy and me so that she can eventually enjoy walks in public and experience life outside our home. The transformation has been incredible. Wendy has learned to trust me, she has become affectionate and loving, and every day she grows into the sweet, beautiful dog I knew she could be. What makes this even more remarkable is that Jim has done all of this free of charge simply because he knew Wendy was a shelter dog. That kind of compassion and dedication is rare. I cannot recommend Jim highly enough. He didn’t just help train my dog—he gave Wendy a second chance at life and gave me the knowledge and confidence to help her succeed. I will always be grateful.

I have an older adopted dog that is wonderful in all areas except when it comes to a leash. My consultation with Jim not only helped me understand my dog’s behavior more but simple ways to correct it that are attainable. My dog improved drastically in the hour we spent with Jim, and she quickly gained confidence in her new leash skills. I also gained confidence that I have what it takes to work together with my dog so that we can attend social events together! I will likely do private lessons with him, too, as they’re a great fit for our family’s schedule and my dog’s temperament. I am typically a self-taught learner and have successfully trained my pets in the past, but it was harder this time. Jim was very easy to communicate with as well. I’m thankful to have found Micky’s House so close to home and can’t recommend Jim enough!
