Tom is WONDERFUL. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a dog trainer who is knowledgable in helping to train both your dog AND you as the owner. I like that Tom works with you and your dog in your home and neighborhood environment, so that he can give tips and feedback that is relevant to what you and your dog encounter every day. I saw improvements in my dog's behavior and demeanor even after the first lesson, and am so happy with the strides we have both made with respect to leash walking and reactivity toward other dogs. I highly recommend Tom, as long as you are willing to put in the work yourself during training and beyond.

Tom was patient and very helpful. He explained the 'whys' behind the training we were doing, and let us mold what we did and didn't want to work with for our dog. My family was astounded by our dog's manners, when they came to visit once we were done training.

Tom is excellent! We have a doberman who was reactive to dogs, people, bikes -- anything that moved. Before training with Tom, walking our dog was extremely frustrating. No dog is ever "perfect" but we have seen a dramatic difference after training. One thing we appreciated about Tom's approach is that he doesn't take a "one size fits all" approach. Your commands and corrections are based on your unique challenges. Do yourself a favor and choose Tom. You won't need to find another trainer.

I went through Tom's training program shortly after adopting a 1.5 year-old pit mix from BARCS. Bowie had been severely neglected prior to his rescue. He had no training, and wasn't properly socialized with people or other animals as a puppy. Personality-wise, he proved to be a tricky combination of insecure/fearful and pushy/impatient. Once we'd spent a few weeks bonding, he became increasingly aggressive (growling, barking, lunging) toward anyone he perceived as a threat: co-workers (he comes with me to the office), neighbors, friends and family, etc.
My vet recommended Mid-Atlantic Dog Training, and--after having a very thorough consultation with Tom--I felt encouraged and hopeful that Bowie could become a more relaxed and happy dog.
But... I also knew we had our work cut out for us.
Two things to understand about Tom's program: 1) the goal is to educate you, the dog owner, as much as it is about educating your dog, and 2) as with anything else, the more effort you put into the training, the more you and your dog will get out of it. You'll have a lot of homework to do, and you will likely have to re-adjust your perspective when it comes to your relationship with your dog. So, be prepared to do the work and make some changes that can be uncomfortable at times.
All of that said, I'm really glad we did the training with Tom and am certainly pleased with the results. Bowie now walks nicely on the leash, understands several basic obedience commands (and listens when I give them), and is a much calmer dog around other humans. He's not perfect or "fixed" and will always be a work in progress, but Tom equipped us with the tools to continue improving and tackle new challenges as they arise. Worth noting: if you successfully complete the program, Tom will continue to provide support and advice as you keep on with the training on your own. In short, I found the MADT program to be a very worthwhile investment.

Tom is a fantastic trainer. My dog Gus improved dramatically going through this training. I couldn't be happier. If you're looking for someone to teach you how to be an amazing dog owner, look no further.
