We recently rescued a puppy and after not having a puppy in over 15 years, decided support for training would be a good idea. I never boarded a pet before and honestly was very nervous about doing a board and train. The front desk staff were incredibly patient and kind with me discussing my worries and concerns over the phone as we had noticed our pup was very anxious and we weren’t going to have had her in our family very long before a planned vacation. I was honestly scared boarding could increase her anxiety and disrupt our attachment we were developing with her. Midwest Dog Center was super helpful in explaining training methods to reduce my worries and recommended ways to help ease her anxiety and develop her confidence before we got to the board and train date. Timing didn’t work out to do all of the recommendations but we did a short board for a weekend before the full week. When I dropped her off they again reviewed all of my expectations with training and explained things they could and could not accomplish in the week. We got back from a week long vacation and picked up a clean and happy pup. My husband commented after both boarding experiences how good she smelled and asked me if she got a bath there. I returned a few days later to review the training with Hank and knew my dog had a great experience. She first happily got out of the car with no hesitation, a difference from before training when she would try to hide and I would have to pick her up and get her out. When we went inside the moment she saw Hank she was pulling on her leash to run over to him for pets. Hank took the time reviewing all training with us, made sure we understood things and had us practice and offered kind suggestions. Again discussed longer term goals with her anxiety and recall and offered great advice and solutions to keep working on. He encouraged doggy daycare for her and said it could be anywhere if we didn’t want to drive to their location from our home, you could tell he puts the dogs best interest first no matter what. If anyone else is on the fence and nervous about boarding and training I would encourage you to call and visit. You and your pet won’t be disappointed.
