I would like to train at least one of my dogs to be a support or therapy dog. I have three I consider trainable and sweet enough to do the job, but would need more training. What do you suggest?
I would suggest scheduling a meeting to meet the dogs and discuss your options. It can get complicated and there’s a lot to consider when training a therapy dog. We sent our doofy and sweet (almost) one year old German Shepherd, Rocky, to Minnesota Canine Consulting.
I cannot speak highly enough of the owner, Andy. When we met after to go through how we should use the training they taught our dog, Andy did not think Rocky was where he wanted Rocky to be. He asked if he could personally take Rocky home with him for a few days and work with him one-on-one.
You don’t see this very often with companies. Andy was very invested in making sure we got a well trained dog at the end and we are so appreciative of that.
When we got Rocky back, he was SO much better behaved. He walked right next to us when we walked him, he wasn’t jumping up, he listened. He’s still his same old goofy self, but just much better behaved! I highly recommend :)

I sought out MN Canine Consulting to help with my 1-year old bernedoodle’s fear of walking. After several months of working to overcome his fear, I realized professional help was needed to get him over this in a positive, reinforcing and disciplined way. Andy, Mike and the training team helped extend the basics further AND sent me home with a pup that was able to go for a walk, without fear, at a perfect heel and greater command of basic obedience. I have been absolutely delighted with the results and that I brought home the same playful, happy pup with newfound confidence to tackle walks with the family!

Working with the company was amazing my dog is so happy now and so out we. The trying will have my dog more structure and purpose and now isn’t crazy and making trouble for everyone and even at the park he is so much more comfortable and controlled. This is one of the best dog training I have been to! 5 stars all the way!

Our 2-year-old Golden Doodle, Gordon, has been a handful since we brought him home. I have almost "re-homed" him three times! Andy took him for 10 days and we now have the dog I knew he could be. Andy sent us videos during Gordon's stay and kept in touch. He was very responsive to texts. I expected him to learn his manners, but what I didn't know is that he would be so much calmer. He can relax now instead of barking at anything that moves. We can enjoy time outside again! He is a different dog.
Finally, and most importantly, Andy was a good teacher for ME! He knows his stuff, and never made me feel stupid for not "getting" it. I was able to come home with confidence! I am so grateful for this new opportunity with my dog.
