Mirror Image K9

Millie and her whole crew are amazing! The facility is beautiful, spotless, and thoughtfully designed with every detail centered around the dogs in their care each day. I’m so grateful to have been part of their first workshop/masterclass — watching dogs and their owners grow together over the weekend was truly a highlight of my year. And the amount of knowledge they share through the MIK9 Extended Group is incredible! Thank you again!

I can’t say enough good things about Jillian at Mirror Image K9! My dog Bubba has made such amazing progress since starting training with her. He’s becoming more confident and Less reactive on his walks when he sees other dogs. He also hated me clipping his nails and now I can actually clip them without him acting out. Bubba’s behavior has improved tremendously and I’m excited for Bubba to continue his training and become the best boy he can be. Highly recommend Jillian and Mirror Image K9!

Lula was a client of Mirror Image for a couple years but hasn’t been back in over a year now. She attended day camp and a few structured walks. The “Place” command they teach in day camp came in handy today when painters had to leave the front door open. Lula set in place for over an hour while the door was wide open allowing paint to dry. No crate required for this pup! Mirror Image was such a good influence on her! This is just one of the many good things I attribute to her experience there. And yes, she does need a bigger place mat lol

Cody had never learned “leave it” or “drop it”. What’s worse, he watched for small things to be left by someone and then took them and refused to surrender them. We believed it to be potentially dangerous and determined that we needed to seek professional behavior help. We’d seen episodes of Cesar the dog trainer and big tough guy trainers manhandling big tough dogs on the internet. And then there was Jillian at Mirror Image K9 who we had worked with Cody years ago when we were having difficulty grooming him. We thought for sure we would need massive strength to overcome Cody’s behavior problems. However, we also knew, and the name Mirror Image K9 says it all, that a lot of Cody’s behavior problems originated with us. I saw Millie on one of the pack walks and mentioned concern about the behavior. She felt very confident that Julian could help me. I sent a text to Julian explaining the problem and mentioned that I had tried a shock collar years ago and quit immediately because Cody jumped to the sky in its lightest setting. When Jillian got back to me, it was the shock collar that she would introduce to solve the problems. It was a collar with much more range of sensitivity and it could be carefully incorporated to ramp up or down to match the intensity of Cody at any particular situation. It was a carefully planned program that first got Cody and us comfortable with the use of the collar. Jillian taught layering of correction. The end result.. we’re not at an end result yet, but we continue to keep the collar on Cody at all times except at night or when we’re away. The layering training turned out to be amazing. I can use any one of the correction layers and Cody understands the meaning. We were very careful to make sure the correction training with the shock collar was interpreted by Cody as direction and not anger. I rarely need to give him correction anymore even though he is surrounded in the back yard with mushrooms and pinecones which loved to steel away with and eat. When I do have to give him a correction in the back yard now, it’s usually verbal or a shock if required. In either case, he is alert, looks at me, corrects the behavior and runs to me for affection and reassuring. Our formal classes with Jillian are now over, but the training gave us the ability to continue the training with Cody to fine tune everything we learned. He’s become much more respectful of us and wants to be near. Our big challenge now is working through his anxiety when he sees the deer family come through the yard to get a drink. The collar can be cranked up to meet his level of anxiety and let him relax and observe the deer family without a lot of barking and anxiety. I’m summary, we didn’t know what to do. Mirror Image K9 is what we did. Do not underestimate what they can do to help you and your pet solve behavioral problems.
