This is an unfortunate review. My guess is this was a meet & greet training. It is explained ahead of time and on the website that during these meetings, there is a lot of intake by the trainer, asking questions, observing the dog in a new environment and doing evaluations. These observations and evals are done while conversing with the owners. The trainer is getting a feel for the dog and reading body language. Letting a dog sniff and "play" before diving into training allows the dog to have some time to feel comfortable in the environment and with a new person. Part of training is using appropriate fear free equipment and educating the owner on how to use them. There are harnesses that are recommended and treats available for purchase. They can be bought anywhere. Ultimately it is the owners choice which equipment to use. However, prongs, choke and e-collars are prohibited in the training facility. Working with a trainer should be a team effort. A trainer is like a coach and it is up to the owner to put in the hard work at home. When it comes down to it, you live with your dog not the trainer. The human needs to build the relationship with their dog. The trainer is there to pass on their expertise and guide you along your training journey.
