Nate Dog Training

We worked with Nate to retrain our 5 year old german shepard/rottie mix, Goose. When Goose was a puppy he was charged and attacked by off leash dogs on several occasions which lead to serious ptsd when seeing other dogs especially off leash dogs. He would go into a crazed tunnel vision trying to defend himself even though where we live now the dogs pose no threat. We were honestly at a loss when he even started reacting this way to people without dogs. That’s when we reached out to Nate who within 1 session with his pack was able to bring out the sweet nature of our boy that we know exists but no one else had seen. We did several private sessions in different locations in our own house, neighborhood, and nearby park, and group sessions which introduced more variety in dog personalities and distractions nearby. We were so impressed with how Goose could now sit next to new strange dogs and be okay. But truthfully what changed wasn’t Goose, it was us. Nate is a different type of trainer who teaches owners to be better pack leaders. His philosophy is that too many dog owners allow their dogs to make big decisions when mentally dogs are no more advanced than a toddler. This can lead to unwanted fears or behaviors because it’s too much responsibility for your dog. His training steps are simple - you focus on leash technique to keep your dog at your heel so you’re in the lead and the dog can read your cues, and then you monitor for “threats” or triggers and set the tone for how your dog responds which often just means standing slightly in front of them or nudging them with your foot to correct their behavior. It really is as simple as that. We don’t expect toddlers to make good decisions - we guide them. It’s the same for dogs. Nate also has a book which goes into great detail on the philosophy if you need more information before working with him, but we highly recommend him. Great guy and great pack, and we’re super happy with the results.

We acquired a 14-month large breed, hyperactive dog from a breeder. I would not place our dog in the category of a rescue; however, we were able to use Nate's training to work our dog into a great addition for our family. Be sure to hire Nate to help you and your new pup, young or old. We noticed a marked improvement after the first session! We are so much more confident now in our abilities to manage our large dog and can comfortably say he will live a great life with us. Money well spent if you ask me!

Nate has been nothing short of incredible with my rescue pup! Being an older dog, she started exhibiting some behaviors that we wanted to correct very early on into adopting her.
