Established in 2007, Neuman K-9 Academy is a leading dog training facility based in Hugo, Minnesota, with a team of professional dog trainers serving clients nationwide. We are widely recognized for our dog boot camp and puppy boot camp programs, designed for dogs of all breeds, including Pit Bulls, German Shepherds, and other high-drive dogs.

Advanced obedience is offered through the 12-week boot camp. The course includes field trips into public places, off-leash heeling, off-leash recall (long distance), down from a distance, and a high level consistency to commands even under distraction.
Puppy boot camp includes socialization with other friendly dogs, permanent command associations, on-leash and off-leash control, leash manners, proper etiquette with humans, and life shaping experiences to develop an ideal canine companion.
Foundation obedience training is the building block for dogs to have a better life. We spend several weeks going through hundreds of repetitions of each obedience command building permanent command associations, and precision responses to each exercise. Our team of professionals do it right. :)
Group obedience teaches dogs how to respond to command in the presence of other dogs, which can be a big competing motivator. Responding to commands independently teaches command discrimination, it heightens the focus on the handler, and teaches dogs to work as a team.

Dogs are pack animals so its no surprise they look forward to group play. During boot camp and boarding at our Academy they go out several times per day for play groups. We supervise and structure group play to ensure dogs learn proper play styles, and interact in a positive manner.

Leash manners are the gateway for a dog to enjoying longer walks, and getting to go more places to do more things with the family. We teach loose leash walking, formal heel position, sitting automatically at a crosswalk, and not jumping on humans as part of the leash manners at boot camp.

Founder and training director Josiah Neuman is a Certified Dog Trainer through the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP #2889), and a Certified Master Trainer through Tarheel Canine. The curriculum of our Academy is proprietary and unique to our program.
Handler InstructionProgram details
The success of our program comes in two forms; training for the dogs, and training for the owners (handlers). At graduation, we provide a 1/2-day handler training process to help owners establish rapport, and transition their dogs back home. We include 2-hours of handler after the dog returns home.

What age can you enroll a puppy into puppy boot camp?
4-months of age or older. While you can enroll a puppy later on in life, it is ideal to enroll while the puppy is young, impressionable, and still learning social skills. The most ideal age to enroll a puppy into puppy boot camp is between 4-6 months of age.

Hello All
I was watching a video by Neumans K-9 Academy and was impressed. I am getting a Shiloh Shepherd in July but live in a Detroit suburb and cannot take my dog to Neumans. Is there a dog academy in my area that can produce the same results?
Congratulations on your soon-to-be new member of the family. Unfortunately, we do not know of any dog boot camps in your area. Here at the Academy, we do receive dogs from all over the country for our course. If you would like to discuss having your dog come to our camp, please feel welcome to contact us direct. If you are set in Neumans, they have transported/driven before to pick up dogs in other states as well had dogs flown to MN.
Do you provide sevice dogs or are the dogs trained there personal dogs
We do not sell service dogs nor do we offer service dog training. We specialize in training obedience training for pet dogs that are owned/provided by our clients.

Neumann is expensive but worth it. I adopted my pitbull/lab mix, Hank, from the humane society, not knowing he was reactive to other dogs at the time. In the following year and a half I took him to three different dog reactivity classes with little success. He would still pull on the leash and routinely lunge at other dogs.
After 3 months at Neumann, Hank walks without pulling on the leash and is much less reactive. Sometimes when a large dog comes too close he still gets nervous, but his training makes it much easier to redirect his attention back to myself and walk him away from the situation.
He is also generally much more polite and obedient post-training. A number of my friends have said he seems like a 'new dog'.

Our boxer did the 8 week training program at Neuman and we couldn't be happier with the program. We had taken our older dogs to a different training program and the experiences at the other programs aren't even comparable. Neuman is by far a superior training experience. We also love taking her back for boarding for refresher lessons.

Great communication while going through training. Still waiting for her to complete her 12 week course but I am boarding her there shortly after. A little soendy and everything is an add on but my dogs worth it. You do have to buy the collar at the end which is something I wasn’t aware of and is a couple hundred extra.

My Golden Retriever Nisse, attended 8 weeks of Puppy Boot Camp at Neuman Academy starting when she was just 5 1/2 months old. When I brought Nisse home at the conclusion of her training, it was such a joy to have her know and obey commands to keep her safe and manageable. She is not yet 9 months old and I can take her to open spaces and let her off leash...she stays near me and always returns to my side when I give the "come" command. The training is ongoing...she's still a puppy...but it is well worth following through on everything she and I learned from Neuman's. As a bonus I can board her at Neuman's, which I have done, and she has the same structure there as I maintain at home.
