New Hope Dog Training Center

I highly recommend Gene & Berk for pup training. This is the second dog I have sent for lessons. We are doing much better with play biting, potty & crate training. Does great on leash & comes when told. We are putting in the work on our side to help him continue to be a better puppy. Our first dog still does good with what he learned 3 years ago. Well worth the time & money to have a calm household & happy dog !

I rescued a 7 1/2 pound dog at a gas station. I took him home with my dog, Annie, a Jack. Paco was happy in the dwelling but when we went for walks and encountered people in my building, he would begin to bark hysterically. I hired a trainer to come to the house for $800.00 to help with training. It didn’t work. I started to think of rehoming Paco. A woman I met told me about New Hope Dog Training. After 2 nights of not sleeping, I committed to enroll Paco, I already knew someone who would take Paco if things didn’t work out. Since Paco returned from New Hope Dog Training, I am completely surprised about the change! Gene and Berke do a fantastic, reliable job!

Gene and Berk answered a lot of questions before we signed up. Our dog is a rescue that was living with MANY other dogs. She was about 10 or 11 months old when we got here and her energy level was fun and overwhelming. She jumped on everything, mostly out of curiosity, and she wanted to chew on soooo much. While she did listen some and seemed trainable, the amount of work was too much for us to consider. We had to decide to rehome her or send her to a board and train. I'm glad we chose New Hope Dog Training!!! After this training program our dog is soooooooo much better. She doesn't jump on the furniture or counters. The main mantra that I loved from Gene was "we" are showing the dog how our house works. How our live happens. The goal is to teach the dog what we do, when we do it, how we do it. Instead of letting the dog change our flow, this method shifts the focus to training her to do what we do. Using the Command, Correct (if necessary), Coax, Praise method with adding the 'small changes' over time process fits together nicely. The main critique I would have is that more written instructions would benefit me. I didn't take notes at the in person training, then we came home that evening with the dog and it was not a smooth transition. Overall, for me, this training has helped me 'enjoy' my dog more right now and helps me see how she can be the trainee and I can be the trainer for us to do more in the future. Once the training was over, my husband received several hours of lessons about how to train our border collie at home. I was out of the country and could not join the meetings. Nonetheless, Gene was nice enough to take some of his time and have an exclusive one-to-one video meeting with me afterwards to explain the material. This was an additional class that was not part of the package we paid. He just did it so that I could be up to speed on how to train my dog at home!
