Off Leash K9 Training

I took my 6 mo German Shepherd puppy to them and purchased the basic and advanced training course in November. I worked with Bernard for all but two of my lessons. German Shepherds can be a self willed and stubborn breed. Because of her size I wanted to get her trained so I could handle her without my husband on a walk. She jumped on people, counter surfed for food or anything to steal, she was reactive to anything that moved on our walks (squirrels, birds, blowing leaves and of course cats or other dogs). She would pull so hard I was afraid she would pull the leash out of my hand and run away. At 6 mos she was 50 pounds, at 9mos 70 and full grown she will be 85-90 pounds. It was important she received training. The first lessons on basic obedience made a big difference in our house. They taught her to sit, come, down and place. Also the word “OFF” was introduced and that corrected most of the negative behavior. The advanced lessons were customized to my individual needs with Lexi. The lessons are taught and demonstrated by the trainer for the first 50 min and then the dog is given back to you so you can practice what you were taught in front of the trainer and then go home and work that lesson on your own. Lexi is now finished with her lessons and we hope to take her back for some of the more advance training lessons later. She is a different dog. She is a lot more relaxed at our house. She loves to train! She is 70 pounds now and I am not afraid to take her places on my own. My elderly mom is learning how to give her commands and it’s heart warming to see this large dog respond to my 80 year 5ft mother. Our trainer Bernard took us to a park and exposed to her to dogs, people, kids on playgrounds and ducks at the pond. He also met us at a park near my house to work her in an environment she is familiar with. The lessons are designed around your needs and hopes for your dog. They are not ONE SIZE FITS ALL. Every dog and every owner are different and may have different needs. They ask you what your needs are and what you would like your dog to learn. They offer suggested training based on your situation and work towards the goal of a well trained dog that will interact with your environment in a positive and confident manner. They teach a balance approach to training. They correct bad behavior and reward affectionately good behavior. I let my dog judge the trainer. After an hour of teaching, correcting and rewarding she always ran to meet her trainer at the next lesson. She was never afraid of her trainer and was always eager to see him. Even the corrections are tailored to when the dog responds and not just a standard correction level for every dog. Some dogs are more sensitive to correction and need less while others are more resistant and need more. One of the best things about working with Off Leash K-9 Training is the open communication. I had a phone number of the trainer that I could contact when ever I had a question about the training or about how my dog was acting that day. I didn’t have to wait an entire week to meet with my trainer to ask a question. They encourage you to call them if any questions or problems come up. I learned from the trainers that dogs need a leader. They need to be given jobs and things to do. If not they assume leadership and will do whatever comes to mind. Left to their own dogs can become destructive, aggressive and a liability to live with. Trained these animals become loyal, loving, confident companions that you are proud to show to your family and friends. How well the lessons work (lessons taught weekly to you and your dog) depends on your commitment and consistent training and enforcement of the lessons. Off Leash K-9 Training gives you the training and tools you need to train your dog. I placed my 7 month old border collie in their two week, in-place program. Gustavo (*****) sent videos of his progress every day. He also trained us for three hours upon pickup. My puppy was out of control in all ways you can imagine before we placed him in their care. He is still the same happy and energetic dog he was, but now he is very obedient, follows a lot of commands, and is a complete joy to be around. I just took him for a mile long walk and I did not have to caution him and my arm is still in the socket. Incredible! Gustavo and Off Leash K9 crew, thank you so much.
