Off Leash K9 Training, Fredericksburg

Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks! We took our 7 year old half Lab/half Malinois Maisy to Jake at Off Leash K9 in Fredericksburg after researching places that offered boarding and training for anxious/reactive dogs. Maisy is a twice-surrendered / abused animal, and while she had good consistency with basic commands, she lacked confidence and had little experience with socialization, introductions, and trigger events (like bicycles). Even though we were terrified of dropping her off for 3 weeks, Jake immediately put our minds at ease that she would be well taken care of. He sent us pictures and videos throughout with descriptions of her training and progress. We were able to ask questions and provide additional details about her behaviors. He administered her medications and took extra precautions with her on really hot days. They were fantastic to work with from start to finish. Maisy is a more relaxed, less anxious, confident dog. Her reactivity is almost non-existent. Her consistency with commands is also practically perfect. We could not have hoped for a better outcome and would highly recommend them.

I am so glad that me and my husband decided to take the leap inquire about additional training for our 4 year old corgi. We did our research and chose Off-Leash K-9 Training. Our corgi Gracie, knew numerous commands but would occasionally test us by not complying. Katie (Gracie’s trainer) was very patient and at the same time very firm with Gracie. Katie sent numerous updates to include an abundance of pictures and videos throughout the 2 week training period which allowed us to follow along with Gracie’s progress. On Gracie’s last day, we were given a very in depth training session on all commands that were taught to Gracie and were impressed when Gracie performed the command. Katie continued to show patience and firmness with Gracie throughout this entire last session. We were very lucky to have been able to have such a kind and extremely knowledgeable trainer for our Gracie. We continue to see improvement with the commands that we give to Gracie. As an example, one day while in our fenced in back yard, she started to chase after a bunny. I gave her a firm command of OFF and she immediately stopped her chase. I was happy, amazed and so very pleased. Thank you Katie for providing our family with more tools to help make Gracie and us a better family.

We can't recommend Off Leash K9 Training and our trainer, Colby, highly enough! From day one, Colby was incredibly patient, compassionate, and kind with both of our dogs, Ellie and Clara. Each of them came with different challenges, and he took the time to understand their individual needs and tailor his approach accordingly. Ellie struggled with resource guarding toward me, while Clara, who was adopted, lacked confidence and needed help learning to trust and feel secure. The dogs had gotten into a fight that left them at odds and we struggled to reintroduce them at home. Thanks to Colby's expertise, consistency, and positive training methods, we saw remarkable progress in both dogs. Ellie and Clara now coexist peacefully and can spend time together without issue. He not only trained the dogs, but also spent a lot of time with us when we picked them up to make sure we understood and were comfortable with the training method to set us up for success at home. One of the things we appreciated most was how communicative Colby was throughout the entire process. He sent daily updates with amazing and professional-quality videos and pictures, allowing us to see their progress firsthand and giving us peace of mind that they were in caring, capable hands. He was always available to answer questions, explain what he was working on, and provide helpful guidance so we could continue reinforcing their training at home. It's clear that Colby genuinely cares about the dogs he works with and is invested in helping both the dogs and their owners succeed. We are so grateful for everything he did for Ellie and Clara, and we would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, kind, compassionate, and dedicated dog trainer.

Brenden was amazing with our 5 month old golden retriever puppy, Chelsea. She spent 2 weeks with him as a part of the Board and Train K9 program. My husband and I’s biggest issues were her fears, which led to her pulling on the leash and bolting when frightened. She also had little to no recall. After 2 weeks of Brendan’s professional loving care, Chelsea is now showing almost perfect recall, even in situations of anxiety or other distractions. She also will sit and stay with one command even when there are other dogs or her favorite humans moving around her. Even though we continue to deal with her fears and mastering heel in walking, he has given Chelsea a solid training foundation that we will build on.
