Off Leash K9 was our first choice after an extensive search of training programs in the Portland area! We opted for the individual lessons instead of boarding our dog because we wanted to feel more confident and involved as owners in the training process.
After our initial phone consult with Stephanie, who was very kind, we went with a trainer whom Stephanie recommended worked well with older dogs (ours is 4 ). We scheduled our first lesson based on which day we were informed she was working. They have an online scheduling system but you don't know which trainer you're scheduling with, and the system only asks for the owner's name and not the dog's name-- which is why for every lesson the trainer asked what our dog's name was, and that made us feel like they didn't know anything about else prior to our appointment.
Out of our 4 lessons, we had 3 different trainers and honestly only liked 1 of them. We didn't meet Trish until our 3rd lesson, Trish was actually personable and connected with our dog before starting the training, and was the only one who verbally recognized how his breed / temperament would impact his training progression. We felt like the 2 two were following cookie cutter lessons. From our 4 lessons, we felt no indication that they actually read the extensive intake form that they required, despite having great questions about our dog's background and behaviors.
Also, they recently moved locations and for last 2 out of our 4 lessons, we started 15-20 minutes late because it was unclear where we were meeting and was not clearly established prior to our lesson. We arrived to the wrong location multiple times and wouldn't be at the proper location until after several missed phone calls and some driving. They do have numbers that you could call and text but they're not very responsive. They have an automatic text reminder system for your appointments, which I think is great but for our last two lessons they continued to report the wrong address since they moved locations.
However we will say that the structure of the lessons was beneficial for our dog and we've made great progress slowly getting him off leash in more distracting environments. We learned the essentials from the trainers and worked really hard between lessons to train and be consistent which we think really paid off. We asked lots of questions and tried our best to make the most out of the program.

My wife and I can't say enough about how Ryan and Mandy have changed our lives for the better because of the training they did with our beagle Bumper. We tried multiple other training classes and techniques in the Portland area but none of them were able to help us with Bumper's leash aggression, pulling, and stubbornness. We were at the point where we were hesitant to take him anywhere because of how naughty he was. After doing much research and reading all of the excellent reviews, we decided to try Off Leash K9 Training. Although Ryan and Mandy were located in Eugene, we decided do the two-week course where Bumper stayed with them 24/7. We had doubts about whether or not it would work because of how stubborn our kiddo was, but he came back a different dog! No he is not perfect and he still acts out, but he is soooooo much better than before and we feel comfortable taking him out in public. Ryan and Mandy even extended his training for an additional week at no cost because he wasn't making the progress they had hoped he would. When we finally picked up Bumper after the three weeks, Ryan spent over two-hours with my wife and I to go over Bumper's trainings and commands. He was very patient and did a great job explaining everything. Yes the training is very expensive, more than I ever thought I'd pay for dog training, but the benefits of a well behaved beagle are priceless. Ryan and Mandy also run a dog rescue on site so it was great to know Bumper would not be alone. We will definitely be using Ryan and Mandy again for all of our training needs. Thank you!
