On Point Kennel

Talked to David, the owner of On Point Kennels a week prior to seeing him with my dog. The conversation entailed asking his opinion on if my older Brittany would be easily trained to hunt waterfowl or if I was wasting my time. He had prior experience with using his own Brittany on waterfowl, so his opinion was appreciated. He asked some basic questions and from there recommended I come with my dog to talk about expectations and what I'd have to focus on. The day prior to my appointment, I messaged him to confirm our meetup time. He had little to no recollection of who I was and our time to meet, but believed he could still make the time. The day of the get-together, I arrive as does another gentleman with his dog. We both wait for David to arrive as we were a slightly early. The other dog owner was working upland game and I, as I had to remind David again, was there for a evaluation and to see if he felt my dog could be a candidate for waterfowl. 5 mins are quick introductions followed by 20 mins of David and the other owner's dog working woah commands. Another 5 mins of talking and further recommendations on what he and that other dog should work on. David takes my dog and spends about 10 min showing me what force fetching is. Gives him back and believes he could hunt waterfowl following further work. Wrapping up the talks, the other gentleman hands David money. I inquire about full training services and what his accommodations are for the official sessions and boardings. In closing, I ask if there was money needed, with David's replay yes, of $45. During the conversation on the phone and multiple text, money was never discussed. I didn't question it, because as it his business he can value his time as he sees. That said, I wish David was more transparent of cost for what felt of 10 mins of him demenstring what force fetching is. I thought there would be an evaluation, I could meet him and his facility, and talk about training options going further. Perhaps discuss boarding options with training or training sessions and what that might look like around his schedule. David does seem knowledgeable and outside his house where he trains seems fine. I just left feeling like he pulled a fast one on me. I won't be returning and recommend cost be discussed before meeting regardless if just 10 min of conversation.

I’ve been around dogs my entire life, and Dave is as good as it gets! Not only will he train your dog, but he trains you to be a better handler along with it! Dave is an old school straight shooter, and he’s turned my dog into more than I ever imagined possible! I’ve had such an incredible experience, that I’ll be getting a DK pup from them once they come around! 10 stars.
