FirstBarkAlex trained our lab and it was the best thing we ever did for our family! He is the absolute sweetest dog by nature but he is now also such a good boy and so obedient! We just got a new puppy and she will be going to Alex as soon as she is old enough!

Grant and Alex Huff have a combined 35 years experience training dogs to an advanced level for AKC hunt tests, duck hunting, and obedience. They both grew up in East Texas with a love for duck hunting and dogs, which eventually led them to a career working with dogs of all breeds. They love seeing dogs reach their full potential and bridging the knowledge gap between clients and their pets. Unlike many trainers, Grant and Alex do all of the training themselves, from start to finish. This ensures each dog is getting the most out of their time at One Shot Retrievers. When Abby turned a year old on Dec 6, 2023, my wife and I both knew that we had purchased a great Doberman. A dog that we could really enjoy during retirement, but we had one issue; Abby was out of control with her behavior. Abby is a lovable dog but she showed her love through jumping on us. She would sneak food off the counter. She was so smart, she could open our doors by herself. But the worst part, we couldn’t take her anywhere on a leash. . Abby needed intense training and we found One Shot Retreivers near Lake Palestine. We sent her to school for six weeks. We missed her but not her behavior. Deb and I picked Abby up after an hour of training on how to use their training with an e-collar. Then Abby was brought to us from the kennel area and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. She did exactly what she was told; here, heel, and sit. She didn’t move. She wasn’t distracted. She was a well behaved Doberman. Abby has now been home for 5 days. She no longer acts like an out-of-control puppy. Still lovable and with her new behavior, she is now a welcomed part of our family. I strongly recommend One Shot Retreivers! The husband and wife team were great! If your dog is out of control like Abby, you need to make that phone call. You will be glad you did!

Bottom line up front: Alex and Grant of OSR are exceptional pro trainers, and I would recommend them without hesitation. The stressors of selecting a trainer and getting it right was a hang-up for me. What will be the return on my investment? Does my pup have potential, and to what extent? Can they work out any bad habits we have allowed? How much will my dog be worked with? Will I allow the trainer extra time needed to work issues out? The above-listed thoughts constantly raced through my mind until we were referred to and met with Alex and Grant Huff of One Shot Retrievers. At that point, Rip was nothing more than a lovable companion with issues, hunted a few times, and was a little older than most dogs going into training. Alex was always upfront with us and communicated frequently throughout the training. Upon completing the training, we were impressed by what she could do with Rip. As a parent, having a front-row seat to observe my 13-year-old son's confidence in handling and Rip's execution in the field was an incredible experience. I look forward to our next adventure with OSR!
