Pack Leader Dog Training

I love my dog. But, sometimes love isn’t enough. I was really at my wits end. My dog was being extremely reactive in my home, resource guarding the house and me. It made it impossible to have people over, including family and friends. I found ways around it, but I was always uneasy in the back of my mind. As my dog’s behavior got worse, my pet sitter suggested connecting with Pack Leader Dog Training. Worth every penny and every minute of time spent to make my dog less reactive. She and I have a better relationship now. We understand each other more. She respects me more, and I have more control (for lack of a better word) over how she responds and listens. I’ve seen my dog’s confidence increase, and I’ve watched her smile so much more. There were times I felt hopeless, but when we started seeing progress with this training, it was a beautiful thing. I just had to stick with it, and I had to listen to the trainer’s guidance and advice. She was training both my dog and me. This wasn’t my first time with a trainer. But this was the trainer that made the difference and that helped deliver real progress and a more secure dog. Before what we call "the incident" happened, my dog didn't know what fear was. I had never seen him scared of really anything. Unfortunately, one day at our usual park during a normal walk, there was a track meet across the road that started with a pop gun. And that's when our world was shattered. My dog took off to the car and was shaking so uncontrollably I thought he was going to have a seizure. This one incident turned our lives upside down for the next 3 months. Every little sound, in and out of the house, terrified him. Three of his favorite words became his biggest fears. Carride, walk, park. Loud trucks, loud exhausts, motorcycles, and any other unexplained loud noise sent my dog hiding. There were countless times I carried him out to potty because he wouldn't even walk outside into his own yard. Fear was new territory for me and for him. Before the incident, he went everywhere with me. Grocery pickup, Starbucks run, going out shopping, and any kind of adventure, he was ready for. But when this happened, there was a new dog in front of me. There were nights I cried myself to sleep because I did not know what to do for him. I was mourning our walks and time spent together. And I thought this was going to be the death of him. Seeing as he's 14, it is very important to me to keep him moving, exercising and mentally stimulated. I saw this as the end. But I couldn't give up on him, and I started to do some research. Luckily and thankfully, I came across Susan. My first conversation with her had me in happy tears and gave me the hope I was so desperately looking for. She told me some things to try and reasons why what I was doing wasn't working. It all made so much sense. And I saw results almost immediately. Two weeks after our first conversation, there was a significant change in my dog. When Susan and I met, she gave me so much information and so much encouragement that we could do this, that we could turn this around. And she was so right! Now, about 4 to 5 months after the incident, we are back at that same park that terrified him as if nothing ever happened. Her wisdom and knowledge is invaluable! I cannot stress this enough. She gave me and my dog our life back and has undoubtedly added years to his life because we can now go back to normal. Meeting Susan and having her guidance was the best thing I could have ever done for my dog and for me!
