Questions & answers

What people have asked about this business.
How will behavioral training help my dog with reactivity?
Reactivity is a symptom, not the problem. Most training is focused on getting the dog to "heel" or doing obedience while the dog is highly aroused and stressed. We focus on building clear communication and a healthy rapport with the dog parent and more importantly, we address how the dog behaves at home where 90% of behavioral problems start and end. This is often the missing piece to training is not recognizing how all the small day to day interactions at home either make or break a dog's overall behavior. We create training plans that are realistic for both human and dog- not just cookie cutter.
Do you offer aggression dog or reactive dog training focused on behavior?
Yes, all of our training programs are focused on behavior and emotions first. Meaning, we are interested in resolving the root of behaviors like reactivity, aggression pulling etc. Most of the clients who come to PLH have already been through 1 or more failed training program because much of the training was focused on symptom management.
Can you train my dog to become my PTSD service animal?
Hi Harper,
Unfortunately, we do not train service animals we offer rehabilitation and training for dogs with behavioral issues and for puppies to create calm on command dogs.

I feel so fortunate to have found Brianna back in 2020 when I adopted Cosmo. She taught me the skills I needed to build his confidence and transform him from the completely shut down, fearful, anxious dog he was when I got him to a balanced, friendly, well-behaved city dog. She taught me how to observe and interpret his body language, how to manage his behavior, and most importantly, how to gradually change how he felt about the things that scared him so he could be more confident and happier.

Gaby (our dog trainer for Wilson) is the ultimate puppy whisperer. She helped us with leash skills, impulse control, barking while we eat dinner :/, and with managing his puppy behaviors. We cannot thank Gaby enough for her help and support through the tough puppy stages. She was very patient, kind, non-judgemental, knowledgeable. She made us more confident. Our dog is now walking calmly on the leash and is a happier boy for it.

Trust.The.Reviews. It’s a challenge to know where to even begin; there are too many positive things I want to vocalize about Pack Leader Help, so I’ll attempt to make this as succinct as possible! We started working with trainer Abby a little over a month ago to help with our rescue street dog’s reactivity. We came in with some groundwork thanks to obedience classes and a few previous 1-on-1 training sessions outside of PLH. However, it felt like we came to a standstill with Shushi’s reactivity and were feeling a bit overwhelmed on what to do next…cue Pack Leader Help. Abby has been wonderful to work with. She is super knowledgeable and personable- I swear there is a calmness/ease about her that has honestly helped me put my nervous pet owner feelings aside and be more confident. Her approach to the training sessions are extremely ‘user-friendly’, comprehensible and to the point. We really feel like we come out of the session with an understanding of what we need to do. I know this journey will take time, patience and continuous effort, but we are already seeing incredible results and have formed a stronger relationship with Shushi through Abby’s guidance.
The company also offers Saturday Group Classes (which really help with reactivity/neutrality) and Trail classes (if you are already a client and have had 2 private sessions). We’ve only attended the group class so far and it’s been awesome. Can’t wait to see Shushi’s transformation through these classes as well and to give the trail class a try soon.
And just to top it all off, this is a woman owned and operated business! Great company and great people!

Working with PLH taught me so much! I initially did a virtual lesson with Julianne. I was apparently her first virtual client at PLH but I couldn’t even tell, she was amazing! She has excellent communication skills. She explained concepts and techniques so well and understood everything that I was trying to explain about my dog’s behavior. Importantly, she never made me feel bad for doing something ineffective or incorrect with my dog. Rather, she would explain why a different method might be more effective. I loved her so much I then drove an hour to do an in person lesson after that.
I’ve attended the group classes as well, and Brianna and Julianne both have so much energy and joy during class. It is very encouraging to see that kind of enthusiasm! Brianna was also so helpful in addressing my dog’s anxiety around other dogs. I had been making a lot of progress with his dog reactivity, so I wanted to find a safe place for him to have more positive interactions with other dogs. Unfortunately my dog had had several negative interactions in the past which made me very hesitant, but I’m so glad I found Brianna!
What I love most about the methods at PLH is that they are designed to address the emotional response and mental state of the dog rather than only correcting “bad” behaviors. This is exactly what I wanted and found at PLH. Brianna and Julianne are so good at empowering dog owners with the knowledge necessary to train our dogs. The very detailed homework that we receive after each lesson is so so so helpful!
The women at PLH are genuinely kind, hard working, intelligent, and amazing!!

While I cant speak to any in-person training, I had a great experience at my virtual session with Abby at PLH. Info about my dog was gathered ahead of time to make sure my session was tailored to his and my individual needs, and Abby allowed me to ask questions to drive the session. Even though it was online, she was prepared to demonstrate things really clearly with her own dog, and follow-up via email to recap what we talked about. I would definitely book another session in the future!
