Papp's Dog Services

I came to this class with my daughter's older dog (8 years) and discovered that contrary to popular belief you can teach an old dog new tricks. Susan is a pleasure to work with and I appreciate that she explains the reasons for certain procedures and the insight she gives us to our dogs psyches. Bobo and I have learned so much that I will also bring my own dog Bella (6 years) to a future beginner class.

I have trained dogs for over 40 years starting with hunting dogs in my teens and then the working dogs in my twenties. I had a back injury and surgery when in my 60s and had a young doberman that needed to start his training. I sent my wife with him to Papp’s with it being her first exposure to training. Needless to say with my wife following Susans instruction’s he did not pass his obedience with that also being the case with several others at the end of her class. I had to work with him and then have my wife take him back to demonstrate his obedience so he could move forward to his CGC as opposed to having to pay another fee to go through her class a second time. Later we had a shepherd and a young man wanting to learn training. I paid for him to attend the obedience class. It has become obvious Susan’s skills and insights are weak in working with first time trainers, as this person also failed the obedience at the end of the class. So you may want to try another trainer if you're a first time training class attendee. I have also referred a neighbor to one of her puppy classes and observing her dog on walks with her it appears she did not gain much by attending Papp’s classes. You could ask Susan what percentage of the dogs attending her classes actually pass the obedience test at the end of her class being handled by first time dog training students. You might find the number disappointing. But if you do attend I'm sure she will be more than happy to recommend you come back for a second try at it. I plan on trying to find some of the others that i have referred and see if their experience has been similar as a first time trainer attending her classes. I certainly will not refer anyone else to her classes.
