We can't recommend K9 Academy enough! Rick and team have done an amazing job with our 2 year old Spanish Water Dog, Quincy. Through board and train, agility, recall, and scent detection, Quincy has grown into a confident, focused, and well-trained dog. The best part is how excited Quincy gets every time she sees Rick—it's clear how much she loves him and enjoys learning from him. His knowledge, patience, and dedication have made all the difference. Park City K9Academy is a great resource and a gem of a find for dog training! I came to PC for the summer with a new 9 week old puppy, soon to be a large dog with a breed reputation for needing a lot of stimulation and variety in both physical and mental work. Because of his future size I definitely wanted and needed obedience but I also need to understand and learn how to stimulate a dog and learn the techniques to teach my dog new things independently. Rick has a deep background in training dogs ( himself trained and educated at some of the top canine training centers in the country) as well as their owners for many different tasks- police dogs, agility training dogs, true service dogs (eg scent training for diabetics/rescue etc) and I’m sure more- and it shows in how he explains why certain techniques work best. He also offers solutions for issues that occur at home as well as potential future issues to expect as the dog matures. At PC K9 Academy I have learned the different uses of treats as well as the importance of prey-drive play to ensure that my dog ALWAYS find me ( the owner) the most exciting and engaging person/thing around - better than the duck in the pond distracting him, or the dog down the path and already at 4 months I have a dog who walk really well in the leash, is fully engaged with me when we play or go out. He is confident and isn’t scared to explore, climb, jump, swim and be with other animals… and behaves well- I really credit Rick and his assistant Taylor’s with their guidance in teaching me the foundations that have made it a joy to reach this point… Rick also send recordings of highlighted segments of the training sessions to refer back to in order to reinforce or remind us as owners, the optimal way to practice a skill-we have found these very helpful. Bottom line- I highly recommend Rick at Park City K9 Academy, without reservation!
