FirstBarkVery glad we took our Brittany to Partners Snake Avoidance! He runs off leash through some desert, so we felt like it was mandatory. It took maybe 20 minutes total, - he got the scent of live snakes and the correction to stay away - which he did! We will bring him back for refresher sessions to make sure he remembers!

About Partners Snake Avoidance
Partners Snake Avoidance has successfully trained over 16,000 dogs to avoid the SCENT and SOUND of a Rattlesnake for the past 16 years. It works in 3 parts. 1. We put our own equipment on your pup and use our own experienced handlers to make sure they association is objective as possible. Just between the dog and the snake. 2. We then take your dog to around to several double mesh wire cages in a desert environment, and once they recognize the scent or sound of the rattlesnake we give a very minimal "nick" on an e-collar to train a negative association. 3. At the end, we will give you a recap of what we thought of the session and will recommend a time to come back for your pup's refresher.

At the time your ready to take them out and about in the wilderness or hiking, camping etc. This training has to updated yearly.

Do you use defanged, box, or cage training? I'm getting a 6 month old heeler who will be my hiking buddy.
They use a double mesh wire cage so there is no chance the snake can get to your dog. Though, it still lets the sound and scent through! I would never go to a trainer that defangs the snakes as it can be very painful for the snake, and still potentially harm the dog. The fangs grow back:/

Must do if you spend anytime in the Scottsdale/Phoenix desert areas with your four legged family member. I was the biggest skeptic but have seen our RubyRoze stop in her tracks while hiking, only to see the rattlesnake shortly after. Just had her annual refresher and she wanted nothing to do w the snakes once again. Not only has she saved herself from a bad day of hiking but she has saved us as well. I can't recommend Partners enough. Very professional, super nice and it definitely works. Thank you Partners.
My 3 yr old Goldendoodle did very well. I'm confident she knows what snakes smell like and will avoid them
Over the last 15 years, all of my terriers have had this training, and I swear by its effectiveness. I have seen first hand all three of my dogs avoid rattlesnakes that have wandered into our backyard, and their reaction when there was one outside our front door. Now when we are out walking I can trust that they will alert us, which also helps keep us safe from stepping in the wrong place.
