Patriot K Nine Training & Behavior

I have trained all my dogs myself but recently my female dog was being aggressive with one of my male dogs specifically, so much so it causes fights. I needed help and reached out to Patriot K9 to see what I was doing wrong or what training we needed to get this to stop. They had a consultation appointment open that week and it was confirmed within a few hours. (they weren't open yet when I scheduled it so typical confirmation time might be sooner.) Met with Amber and she had me fill out some paperwork. She asked alot of detailed questions about our household and Tris and the dynamics in our home. She really took the time to understand the source of our issues and didn't try to push any specific training classes. She didn't guarantee success or suggest a "fix all" trick. This consultation really kicked me into action to focus on the dogs everyday training so that I could be in control of my pack again. I'm excited to try out the group classes and outings to take her to the next level.

I cannot say enough good things about Patriot K9 and the team that work here. Everyone has been very friendly and knowledgeable. For background my wife has deadly Anaphylactic allergies. Mostly to foods. We talked about getting her a dog to alert her to the most common ones to help her avoid them and give her more freedom in life and more confidence to go out and do things without having a human with her. However, we were at a loss of how to train a dog to be what we needed for her to achieve these things. Enter Patriot K-9. We researched dog trainers all over the Fayetteville area prior to choosing Patriot K9 as our training center. The Patriot K9 trainer researched my wife’s condition personally after our consultation and came up with a personalized training program for us and our Boxer puppy Ryder so he could become exactly what my wife needed. The trainer has done amazing integrating us into Ryder’s training and teaching us how to teach him. We greatly appreciate the hands on learning approach, and that we are involved in all aspects of his training. It is NOT a “drop your dog and take them back trained” program. YOU LEARN how your dog learns, and YOU LEARN how to teach your dog what they need to know. We did NOT want a “ready made dog” we wanted a dog that learned with my wife. The trainer even bought specialized training tools just for Ryder to help him learn his scent training. Despite him being a brachycephalic dog breed the trainer didn’t shy away from turning Ryder into a scent trained dog. And he has been AWESOME at it! We started Ryder’s training at 4 months old once he completed all of his required puppy vaccines. Our trainer has been Extremely careful to create a safe environment for my wife so that she isn’t exposed to allergens during Ryder’s training. The trainer was also very open to learning how to respond and help my wife if she has an allergic reaction while at training until I can get there to take over. Ryder is now 1 year old and is an AMAZING dog. He already alerts consistently to many of my wife’s serious allergies. He has even started trying to warn us when she goes into a reaction which some trainers say is impossible for a dog to learn, not for Ryder! He has also been awesome learning to stay with my wife while she’s having an allergic reaction and not leaving her until it has resolved. This was a worry for us as my wife commonly becomes confused during a reaction and we worry about her and Ryder’s safety during a reaction. He most commonly crawls up in her lap and lays on her until she’s better. (He still thinks he is a 20 pound puppy not a 90 pound dog). Ryder’s public access manners are beyond amazing. He obtained all 3 levels of the AKC Canine Good Citizen awards, the first at only 8 months old, and the final 2 at 11 months old!!! Ryder aces restaurant etiquette, tucking out of the way and waiting patiently to perform his job. He is a perfect angel in conditions that most dogs wouldn’t ever be able to handle. He can go to loud, busy, crowded events such as aquariums, zoos, doctor appointments, hospitals, weddings, renaissance fairs, magic shows, movie theaters, etc. and you’d never know Ryder is there. He can handle small children running crazy around him and right up to him without batting an eye. He LOVES elevators and escalators, the magic of arriving to an entirely different spot. We have received endless compliments on how well behaved he is and no one ever believes us when we tell him how young he is. While Ryder (and us) still have a lot to learn and more skills to master, he has made a HUGE difference in my wife’s life and is invaluable to us. We cannot thank Patriot K9 enough for helping us mold our puppy into the incredible young dog he is today. We cannot wait to see how he grows and adapts as he learns going forward. We highly recommend Patriot K9 to anyone who, like us, is searching for someone to help you train your dog into what you need them to be. Even if it’s not a service dog but just a better behaved dog at home they will make it happen!!!
