We reached out to Gabriel when we were looking for some extra help with Otis after our baby arrived. We started with a few sessions at home and decided to do a 10-day board & train after seeing how well Otis responded to Gabriel. Gabriel worked with Otis on recall, leash reactivity, his tendency to get overly excited when guests come to the door, and more. He sent us videos every day while Otis was with him so we could see what they were working on, and we’ve seen such a noticeable improvement since he came home. I also really appreciated that Gabriel walked us through how to continue working with Otis at home so we could build on the progress he made while he was away. I chose Gabriel to train my new rescue, Scrappy, after reading quite literally hundreds of impressive five-star reviews across several platforms. After working with him, I can confidently say that those reviews were not an exaggeration. We worked with Gabriel through both individual sessions in our home and board-and-train. From our very first meeting, it was obvious that his approach goes far beyond what others offer. Gabriel is a behaviorist who focuses on understanding the psychology and emotional state behind a dog’s behavior beyond simply teaching commands or correcting unwanted behaviors. One of the most impressive things about working with him is how quickly he can read a dog and understand what is actually driving their behavior. Before choosing Gabriel, I met with several other trainers. They charged hundreds of dollars just to assess Scrappy, and those evaluations largely consisted of provoking reactions and then explaining how they could address the problems later in training. Gabriel took a completely different approach. Within seconds of meeting Scrappy, he was already working with him. In the first session, Gabriel had my nervous little dog, who we had thought was possibly people and dog reactive, off-leash walking around with big dogs and welcoming greetings from their owners. The board-and-train was also an excellent experience. I really appreciated knowing that Scrappy was not only receiving high-level training but was also being cared for by Gabriel and his family. It was clear that they made his well-being a priority, which gave me peace of mind while he was away. Gabriel sent daily video updates. Scrappy’s confidence, reactivity, resource guarding, impulse control, and recall all improved significantly during his time with Gabriel. Just as importantly, Gabriel taught us how to continue the work at home. We definitely still have work to do on our end, but Gabriel gave us an excellent foundation and the tools to keep moving forward. Gabriel is exceptionally committed to the dogs he works with. Even though we are not currently meeting regularly with him, he is available to answer follow-up questions and provide guidance when needed. It is also clear that he wants the owners of the dogs he trains to be self-sufficient. One thing that really stood out to me is how flexible and creative Gabriel is in his approach. It’s clear that his background in jazz has influenced the way he works—he’s incredibly adaptable, thinks on his feet, and seems to instinctively know when to change course based on what the dog is giving him in the moment. Nothing feels scripted or one-size-fits-all. He has a remarkable ability to improvise, problem-solve, and find the right approach in real time, which I think is a huge part of what makes him so effective. Gabriel truly went above and beyond for Scrappy, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. I found Gabriel by Googling "best dog trainer in NYC". He has over 100 five star reviews, and now I understand why. My dog, Money, spent some time at the shelter before I got him, and he was very leash reactive with other dogs. He also scavenges for food outside and could possibly eat something to make him sick. Gabriel gave us very helpful tips to solve both of these issues, and then sent us an email recap of the things we need to do with him. We have been following his recommendations, and the difference in my dog is already incredible. We only me with him a week ago! It is not training that relies on treats, special collars, or cruel methods. It is behavior modification that teaches dogs what the boundaries and rules are in a way that they understand. Definitely THE NYC Dog Whisperer. I cannot recommend him highly enough!

Gabriel was wonderful to work with, and we saw meaningful improvements in several of our puppy's behaviors after training. Before working with Gabriel, our puppy would constantly try to eat things off the street and would nudge strangers on walks. Those behaviors have improved dramatically. He also has much more reliable recall now and comes back when called in off-leash areas. Gabriel is knowledgeable, patient, and took the time to understand our puppy's personality as well as our goals. He was also responsive to follow-up questions after the training and offered practical advice as new challenges came up. The one area we're still continuing to work on is leash pulling. Our puppy is a large, strong dog (75+ lbs), and while we made progress in many other areas, he still gets very excited and pulls, especially when heading toward his favorite places like the dog park. Gabriel answered my questions about tools such as a gentle leash which has helped manage his strength while we continue reinforcing loose-leash walking. Overall, we're very happy with our experience and would absolutely recommend Gabriel to anyone looking for a thoughtful, positive trainer who genuinely cares about helping both dogs and their owners succeed.
