Pawsitive Paul's Dog Training

My willful dog, Journey, and I attended Paul’s basic obedience classes. I didn’t think it would be possible, but, in just four weeks she learned to sit, stay, leave it, drop it, go down, refrain from jumping on people, and walk on a loose leash with a fairly high degree of regularity. Beginning the course by teaching the command “watch me” made a world of difference in getting Journey to learn and follow subsequent commands. Additionally, learning to reward and make a big deal out of commands that she followed and act indifferently to other behaviors was highly effective because Journey craves food and attention. Paul’s classes were fun, focused on learning 1-2 commands, and followed up with written notes that spelled out exactly what had been taught in class. I appreciated the notes and referred back to them often when Journey didn’t seem to be catching on. I also felt a sense of relief that I could email Paul and ask for clarification if needed. Paul genuinely believes that every dog is a good dog that can be taught without using harsh methods. In class, no matter what dog he used to model a command, the dog did what he asked. I was amazed by the lively, attentive “can do” approach he used when he worked with the dogs and the positive effect it had on them. My dog, Journey, learned a lot in four short weeks. Perhaps what I learned was more important. I learned that if I handle my willful dog patiently, gently and affectionately, she will almost always learn, and want to do, what I request.

Paul was the absolute best while working during a private training session with my Mini Goldendoodle, Nash! As this is my first puppy, I felt I was struggling in the realms of potty training and obedience training. Paul informed me of all his tips and tricks on how to implement a schedule that would work with my own, how to praise/punish, etc. Overall, he is amazing and I would recommend him to anyone!

I have used Pawsitive Paul’s Service for my last 2 Portuguese Water Dogs ( Very active dogs to say the least). Paul has successfully help to train the 3 of us ( I include myself in the 3) 😆. As I continue to work with my babies daily, I think I have taken full advantage of his cell phone number for the reassurance that we are doing this correctly. Sorry for that Paul, and thank you! Don't schedule private sessions with the other trainer at this facility, did not solve the problem & very poor professionalism. I have a vocal and reactive puppy who I wanted to train and gain more control of. I google'd and yelp'ed and all the reviews suggests I'd be getting a pretty positive experience so I reached out. I got a pretty punctual response saying that Paul's schedule is pretty booked till a month later but this other trainer is able to come in immediately. Since my puppy is growing fast and I wanted to deal with his problem earlier rather than when he's older, I said yes to the other trainer. And It did not go well. My dog and I got pushed into this desensitizing session where we are asked to sit in a very triggering environment in my apartment building and have my dog react and basically reward when he starts to behave. My dog barked at everyone and everything for about half an hour with few intervals. I get the idea of positive reinforcement. I just feel like having my dog entering that "zone" and barking for that long is a bit of an extreme method to desensitize him. Not to mention that I told the trainer that I've had issues with my neighbors complaining about my dog barking so the whole process was REALLY stressful and exhausting for both me and my dog. We then did some other basic commands training at my apartment which were meh and felt like something I could have learned from watching youtube. The session ended with the trainer telling me random things all over the place about dog training. I didn't feel like the 90 min was worth the price I was charged but I thought at least I can consult a trainer about my dog's behavior. According to the website's description, there will be follow up notes and unlimited calls to support the training to follow through. For me, it was nothing but a text message from the trainer one week later. In the message the trainer referred to my dog by a different name that's not even similar and said the "notes" were about to be sent out. Waited another week, received nothing. I then sent out a text message to the trainer politely asking to learn more about the group class at this facility that was mentioned during the training, and hoping this would be the reminder of the notes. Now its been another week and I didn't even get a text message back. At this point it just seems like they're not interested in having anything to do with my dog at all so I'm not even gonna bother to call. I'd still like to trust my judgement on Paul being a good responsible trainer but sadly I won't be able to find out.
