My dog, Henry. a field golden retriever ended up at Mike Osteen's because he was very afraid of a crippled bird. So much to the point he decided he didn't want to pick up any birds. I tried to get help from various people but Henry got worse and worse. He had learned it was okay to take charge and do what he wanted to do. I realized I needed just the right trainer to get him past this problem. Thank God, I found Mike. The first thing Mike did was take Henry back to the basics and worked on obedience. Henry was good with all this. Then as Mike continued with hunt test training, he discovered Henry had a dominance problem! Due to Mike's years and years of dog training experience, he knew he had to get to the root of the problem and not just treat the symptom. Mike Osteen truly has a special gift as a dog trainer. He is on a different level with his insight into dogs' behaviors and their relationships with their owners. Mike was able to teach me not only to train Henry for hunt tests but also how to get his full respect. And now when Henry sees a crippled bird, he will run it down from across a giant field. He loves it now! He is also starting to run master level hunt tests with me as his handler. I will be forever grateful to Mike Osteen and his awesome family and Caleb Kirtner (another trainer @The Farm) who also helped and did a great job with Henry!

We were down at the farm in October with all of our Labrador retrievers. Mike was a fabulous trainer. He worked so well with people, gave me the confidence I needed and was lacking to continue doing well with my dogs. Our dogs loved him and the way that he set up the training. I would highly recommend anybody who has a dog that they want trained in any capacity to go visit Mike and his family and trust them with their dog.

Mike Osteen is a fantastic trainer of both dogs and people! He truly understands dog behavior at a level deeper than I have seen before and more importantly he can communicate and educate clients about behaviors and how to respond and move forward as well. Mike has extensive background knowledge and experience doing everything from military k9, behavior modification, advanced gundogs, and household/pet obedience. For anyone looking for basic training to advanced retriever training I cannot recommend Mike highly enough.
