Words cannot describe just how amazing this training experience was for both my 2 year old female boxer, Charlie, and myself. Not only is Dave incredibly knowledgeable in his skill, he is also someone who demonstrates integrity, honesty, kindness, patience, and understanding. After our initial consultation, Dave created a wonderful training plan for Charlie to help with basic obedience skills, walking on leash, being able to be off leash, some reactivity issues, and separation anxiety. Dave also spent a great deal of time building Charlie’s confidence, especially in new situations and meeting new people and new dogs. Charlie and I met with Dave for a few 1:1 sessions, because let’s be honest, I probably needed more training than Charlie. Then Charlie did 3 weeks of day training with Dave and sometimes his family, where she would spend the majority of the day with him Monday-Friday (15 days total). I have a completely different dog now and I owe all of this to Dave! Charlie rocks her obedience skills, she is able to walk on a leash so well you don’t even notice there is one, her reactively to dogs is almost gone (completely manageable now), she is able to be off leash with me a lot and I feel very comfortable and unafraid (I do use an e-collar with her), she goes into her crate when I say “kennel” and doesn’t come out until I tell her “free” (she wouldn’t get near her crate before Dave), she has a “place” at home where I can place her and she won’t get up until I give her a “free” command, and I am able to leave her home alone, free reign no crate, for several hours and she is calm and content (she was destructive to things in my home before)! Again, I sing so many praises of Dave. This has been a wonderful experience and I view it as an investment for Charlie and I. I am committed to continue working with Charlie daily and Dave is always willing to answer any questions I have. Oh and he gives her the best mani/pedi service this side of Harrisburg! The only downfall in this whole experience is Charlie missing Dave - she absolutely adored him and I’m pretty sure the feeling was mutual. If I get another dog and Dave is still in the business, he will be training any dog I own. I would hands down recommend Dave and I would trust him with any dog - and for me that’s a big deal!!! I had such a wonderful experience working with Dave and would highly recommend his training programs. Our dog first completed the six-week Puppy STAR program with 1:1 training sessions, followed by a two-week board and train, and my husband and I were incredibly impressed with both experiences. From the beginning, Dave was thorough, patient, efficient, and an excellent instructor. What stood out most was how personalized each session felt. He always took the time to ask how things were going at home, actively listened to our feedback and challenges, and tailored each session to what we and our dog needed most. He doesn't just train your dog, he helps you understand how to be a better, more confident companion, which made me feel confident that we would be able to continue the skills I gained beyond the sessions themselves. When it came time for the two week board and train, I had complete confidence leaving our dog in Dave's care. It was clear that he would provide not only excellent training, but also a safe and loving environment. He kept us consistently updated throughout the two weeks. Most importantly, Dave developed a genuine bond with our dog which was evident in the many the videos he posted and sent along the way. You could see that connection when they were together, and it was clear that Dave was truly invested in his success. That relationship made the training meaningful and impactful rather than simply transactional. Dave genuinely cared about setting up both our dog and us up for continued success. It was a healthy and positive experience along the way. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a thoughtful, individualized training program. Dave is a trainer who is knowledgeable, patient, trustworthy, and truly invested in the dogs and families he works with.

We are so appreciative of Dave and his ability to read and understand dogs. Our 15 month old GSP had become reactive to people when walking by them on leash, coming into our home, and constantly barked at the neighbors. He was also horrible with pulling on leash. We thought that we really needed some intense training for Gauge. Dave came to our home for a consult and immediately started evaluating the dog. He was a different dog within minutes of training with Dave. He gave us the right tools to be able to successfully lead our dog. In the end Gauge was so responsive that we did not need intense training. Thank you Dave for giving us the tools and know how to be able to get our happy loving boy back!

We had our 6 mo. old GSD’s entry into training with ProActive Dog Training (six individual lessons) and it was fantastic. The owner (Dave Lock) was awesome and as a former trooper, trainer and handler for PA State Police K-9 Unit, he brought a level of knowledge, understanding and expertise that is second to none! Always was available to answer any questions, help problem solve specific behavioral issues/concerns outside of designated training times. Highly recommend and we look forward to continuing to use ProActive Dog Training for further training sessions.
