Purely Positive Dog Training

My partner and I cannot say enough kind things about Susan Marett and Purely Positive! We were looking to move in together and I have two cats (who had previously both lived in houses with a chocolate lab and a small terrier mix) and my partner has a small pitbull who had never lived with cats. We were looking for assistance in acclimating her dog and my cats when she moved in with me. After doing some basic research, Susan’s company was recommended to us by a veterinary practice in Mt. Pleasant. Our goal was essentially two-folded: first, refine the dog’s training and familiarity with basic commands; and second, help introduce the dog and cats more formally as she began to move in. We also wanted our dog to learn to walk better on a leash. Susan came to our house over in West Ashley and we (dog especially) loved her from the first session! Susan’s approach is founded on calm, consistent, positive-reinforcement based training and after 5 sessions, our dog and cats coexist in a manner that we quite frankly did not initially think was possible. After each session, Susan sent detailed training notes to sum up what we had practiced. Her notes contained links with additional helpful resources and succinct step-by-step one-pagers outlining what we were going to work on next time so we were well-prepared in advance. The level of care and attention she put into every session was evident! Her positive, can-do attitude put us at ease. It has been over 2 months since our last session with Susan, and our dog has gone from not knowing/reacting to the word “walk” to going ballistic with excitement whenever we pick up her harness and leash. She helped a lot with our dog’s confidence when around the cats, and made all 3 animals (and us) feel safe and secure at all times. It was amazing to see the transformation! Needless to say, our entire experience with Susan was “purely positive” and we have since recommended her to a few neighbors and friends! We’re looking forward to having Susan back to help with off-leash training in the near future. If you have come across her company, your search for an amazing trainer is over! Book her! Susan was very helpful and informative during our training sessions for my dog, Carolina. She listened to the problems that needed to be addressed and provided clear and concise answers for me and tasks for Carolina. She also provided other overall tips that really resonated with me and worked for Carolina. She was always professional and easy to work with. Carolina has improved tremendously with all the tips Susan provided. I am very satisfied and would highly recommend her for dog training.

I first met Susan over 20 years ago when I adopted a rescue pup named Chloe. Chloe was showing signs of what I thought was aggressive behavior. Long story short, Chloe was afraid of the world. Susan helped me with positive training strategies and Chloe flourished. Susan and her team have helped me train many pups over the years, through group training and one on one classes. Most recently I adopted a sweet pup named Torre. Torre has been a training challenge for the last several months, especially when on leash passing dogs, dogs behind fences and very reactive to golf carts. I finally reached out to Susan for help. Susan worked with me and Torre to develop strategies to work through the challenges one step at a time. Torre is still learning, but she is now able to go on a leash walk without me getting stressed every time we encounter a challenge.
