Mary Jo is a calm, experienced and positive trainer. I have a reactive dog and was having trouble walking my dog in our neighborhood. He would react to both people and other dogs and it became impossible for me to walk him and keep him under control. I tried to get support from the obedience school that I used for Puppy training, but they wouldn't allow us in class due to his reactivity (this was without seeing what he was doing). My vet connected me with Mary Jo, thank goodness, and it's been a very positive experience for me and my dog. She's come to our home so that she can help me learn how to manage his anxiety in our neighborhood, she's talked me through how to respond to his behavior, and I've even started training at her beautiful facility in WI. Started training my dog here with a private lesson first to see if my crazy hound dog could handle a multi dog class. She assured me he would do great in a class "i was a little nervous". I am so impressed with the knowledge she has given me and her ability to work with different breeds is astonishing. We are now on our 3rd week of training and I am forever thankful to her. My pup is learning new commands and improving noticeably every single lesson! Highly recommend for anyone struggling to train or anyone who just wants to excel further with a well behaved dog.

I adopted a 5 y/o German Shepherd named Choncho, who had a problem with reactivity to dogs and strangers. I was referred to Mary Jo Rhy by a friend who stated she worked wonders for her dog and thought her to be an excellent dog trainer, so I contacted her right away. When I first met Mary Jo, I could sense that she had a calm and soothing presence to her, which put both my dog and me at ease. She provided me with one-on-one training in my home and suggested we come to her training facility in Spring Valley so I could work with him in a group setting that included strangers and other dogs, which I did. Her training has helped me better understand how to work with my dog when put into certain situations, and how to react more positively than negatively to better deal with my fears. I highly recommend Mary Jo to anyone dealing with dog training issues as she is a seasoned dog trainer/handler who will bring out the best in both you and your dog! :)

I’ve been training with Mary Jo for about 8 months, after adopting a rescue dog (Mika) who was shut down, with no motivation, and had no idea how fun life could be. We started with a couple of at home visits and then were able to join a drop-in obedience class that fit my schedule. Mary Jo excels at understanding what the person and the dog in front of her needs to progress. I consider it as “whole person” training - teaching me how to train; considering the mental, physical, and psychological needs for Mika while creating a strong bond. The drop-in class has dogs and owners at various levels of training and the class works because if one person needs more attention - the rest of us continue work on something else to keep the dogs working and thinking. After our hour is over, Mary Jo graciously continues to answer questions and working on exercises that would help with that question. Mika’s joy for work has continued to grow week by week and we have been able to join an agility drop-in class to do foundation work.
