I need to find out if I can have my 2 older dogs (7yrs) trained to be service dogs, or do we need to have a puppy. My son is legally blind currently with a degenerative condition that can either make him completely blind or stabalize at some point.
Jeanna, We are glad to help you in any way we can. Older dogs can be trained for service work and are often easier to train due to their age, however, age is a double sided sword. They may be easier to train, but they also need to retire sooner. Training cost is the same but the length of time in service will be shortened.

When it comes to in-home dog training there are many, many choices and it can be overwhelming and confusing to pick the right person. What are their qualifications? How much experience do they have? Will they be effective and kind when training my dog? We needed in-home training to help with our overly exuberant young dog! She is a sweetheart but loved to jump up on people and needed to learn more self-control. My wife interviewed several potential trainers, and we are absolutely delighted that we decided to work with Louis from Robinson Dog Training! Louis has a wealth of experience in dog training and was a K-9 handler in the USAF. He has been fun but thorough in training US as well as our dog! Our dog has much improved manners, and now our guests enjoy coming to see her! A lesson with Louis is a fun experience for the owner and pet! We learned together, and Louis makes sure every question is answered, and ensured that both my wife and I could demonstrate the skills needed to continue growing with our dog. This review is far from overdue. Louis saved my dog Ritter's life, and this is not an exaggeration. Ritter was an incredibly aggressive dog. He bit people with the intention to cause serious harm. Not warning nips. We took him to numerous vets who prescribed Prozac, and board certified animal behaviorist, and numerous other dog trainers. ALL of them told us to put this dog to sleep, that he could not be rehabilitated, and was a liability to us, and any person around him. We contacted many dog trainers who supposedly worked with aggressive dogs and NONE of them wanted to work with Ritter . Thankfully I found Louis, who immediately returned my call and gave me hope. His methods were NOT like the others. Ritter needed discipline for his bad behavior and not a just a treat for when he behaved well. As far as the training, I did all of the direct work with Ritter. Louis spent 9 evenings with us guiding us on how to train Ritter. Louis gave us the confidence and knowledge to interact and gain control of our dog. It has been 5 years since we have met with Louis and through the years we have consistently worked with our dog and I can honestly say, Ritter is a wonderful blessing in our life, and not a liability. Neighbors who were petrified of Ritter are in awe of what a well behaved dog he is now. Neighbors who are new to Ritter say they wish they had a dog like him! We never would allow people in the house without muzzling AND kenneling Ritter. Now Ritter is able to meet new people and enjoys the attention they give him. Louis, Thank you so much for all your guidance and support. You truly know what you are talking about with powerful smart dogs.
His training is absolutely amazing, every penny was worth it. My German Shepard was a demon and after the first 20 minutes in the first lesson my dog was completely different. Since then I've been continuously doing lesson for the year and my dog is the best. Thanks to Louis I've have a well behaved dog and a protector.
