Hi, I am fostering a 13lb 4 year old terrier mixed dog who is showing signs of fear aggression and resource guarding. The rescues current volunteer trainer is on maternity leave. I was wondering if a trainer would be willing to evaluate the dog?
Hi Linda, I can definitely evaluate the dog and also give you some tips in advance to help you help this dog over come the fear and prevent resources guarding issues. Structure is very important. Start by crating this dog, control it’s freedom, schedule meal times, play times where the dog does something for you to get it’s toys to play, do not leave anything toys out. Show the dog that nothing belongs to him/her. Like that the dog will not have a chance to guard anything. If there is a lot of structure in the dogs life the fear will go away and the dog will become more confident. Use verbal markers or a clicker to to establish clear communication between you and the dog. Thank you!!

I have only worked with Dio from safe K-9 training once. The results from just one session are amazing. He was professional and informative. He provided my husband I with very useful tips to controlling unwanted behavior's of our 4 month old rescue Great Dane mix. This is going to be a very large dog so it is important we train him now. I will definitely be working with Dio again in the future.

Dio helps with training my 2 German shepherds. He is great with the dogs and, more importantly, is skilled at teaching me how to work with the dogs. He has a great way of explaining things and helps me to understand why the dogs are behaving in certain ways and how to get the behaviors I want. He also has been very helpful when I've called upon him to fix isolated behaviors, like refusal to go up or down stairs. I can't recommend him enough!
I'm a service provider who frequently comes into contact with clients' dogs. Dio lead a group information session for me and a few colleagues to teach us appropriate dog interactions, dog behavior norms, and dealing with difficult situations. I found the training to be extremely informative and feel much more confident about my ability to handle situations that might arise.
