Saltgrass Retrievers

My dog is a Cinderella story thanks to Brad. He had zero drive as a pup. He had no drive and no hope. lol. After 2 years of taking him hunting he became a late bloomer and developed a drive for birds. He had the drive but zero discipline and became unhuntable. Barking, breaking, wild as hell. At 2.5 YO Brad took him and made him into a jam up hunting dog. He is steady, quiet, he marks, he takes lines on blinds. I haven’t had to pick up a bird myself this year. Every one delivered to hand. He is solid on hand signals with bumpers and we are working on translating that to the field. With time, patience and as he builds confidence, I think he will only get better. A few long retrieves have been made using hand signals. I went from having a 6 month old house dog that wouldn’t hunt to a 3.5 YO hunting dog.

Brad and his team run a first class operation. My pup “Legend” was trained by Brad in 2022 and I was thoroughly pleased with the results. He has been on several dove hunts and a couple duck hunts over the last two years. This weekend he was the sole retriever for an 8 man duck hunt that I was part of. Legend retrieved every one of the 48 birds shot on the hunt. He followed commands and showed drive all the way to the last bird. To say that I am pleased with the work that Brad and Saltgrass Retrievers did with my dog is an understatement.

Choosing a training facility for your animal can be difficult at best. After having our boy trained elsewhere as a puppy he really needed a tuneup. We were referred to Brad by another reputable trainer and decided to give him a try. I’m happy to say we were very pleased with his professionalism and care for all the animals in his kennel. Our boy Tex is handling well now thanks to the hard work by the team at Saltgrass. Looking forward to starting another pup with them soon.
