San Mateo Dog Training Club

I called this place looking for a Rally class at the basic level/introduction. I told them I am planning to participate with the breeder I got my dog from and another person who got a dog from the same breeder at the Novice level late in October and that we were doing it for fun, I even told them I was not looking for a medal or anything. Just wanted to learn the signs and know what to expect. I was recommended to go to their introduction to competition obedience class. So I went, the instructor Amanda is beyond rude, she was disrespectful and a total bully. I told her “I’ve never done this before, I have taken obedience classes at Cali K9, my 11 months old puppy has been to 4 individual classes and 4 group classes and goes to doggy daycare once a week for socialization”. This woman kept being rude, rolling her eyes and talking to me like if I was stupid for being in the class. I did not ask for that class!! I was recommended that class by them. Mid-way through the class I had enough with the poor treatment, when the instructor got upset because I did not know what a figure 8 was, and I decided to leave. That was when she finally decided to be half decent and told me I was in the wrong class and needed to go to their Basic class. I thought I would give it a try but honestly after thinking about it and reading the low star reviews here, I’ve decided I don’t want to give this place a second chance to treat me poorly. I wouldn’t have been offended if the instructor had been polite and said that I was in the wrong class to begin with! They did agree to not cash my check. Which is about the only good thing about my experience with this place.

This is a training venue and not a 9-5 business. The 'Open/Closed tag you see when you Google it is usually wrong. There are also multiple offices and light industrial shops. I down-rated the complex because, while the training facility is perfectly fine and well suited to purpose, the complex has very peculiar parking restrictions, almost nonexitant disabled parking, and seem to be dog-phobic. This in no way reflects on the training club or it's trainers. They are super. The best. November 2022 update. Parking problem partially solved. Less ambitious markings and some better instructions.
