I cannot recommend Shelmar Obedience Training enough! When I began looking for a trainer for my 6 mo old English Cocker Spaniel, Ember, I received some discouraging advice. One trainer actually told me I had chosen the wrong breed if I expected obedience. He also relied on e-collars and trained the dogs only once a day. Thankfully I continued my search and found Shelly and Martin at Shelmar. Ember has always been a sweet, inquisitive puppy with a strong desire to please and an even stronger desire to explore the world. Before training, she pulled so hard on the leash that our walks had become a safety concern. I have Multiple Sclerosis, which affects my balance, and we live in an urban neighborhood where good leash manners are essential. I needed a dog who would safely walk beside me and behave in shops, cafes, and other public places. Over the course of three weeks, Martin completely transformed Ember. His positive patient approach brought out the very best in her. Today, Ember walks calmly beside me without pulling, sits in her place when asked, comes immediately when called, and is a confident, happy pup. Today we celebrated by visiting my favorite neighborhood coffee cafe together, and Ember behaved beautifully. It was a joy to experience. Our daily walks and training sessions - five each day as we continue the Shelmar routine- have become peaceful, relaxing, and something we both genuinely look forward to, Shelly and Martin don’t just teach dogs- they teach owners how to build a lifelong partnership with their dogs. Their knowledge, professionalism , and genuine love for what they do are evident in every aspect of their program. Without reservation, I give Shelmar Obedience Training my highest recommendation. We could not be happier with the results of our experience with Martin and Shelly - Shelmar Obedience. Our boy is an Airedale about a year and a half. He is all Airedale! A goofy boy and headstrong. After his stay at "Camp Shelmar" he walks on lead with no pulling, responds to commands and is a changed pup with manners. He is still a goofy boy but well behaved. The routine and consistency of the training has produced amazing results. We had some issues with food allergies just before we dropped him off - they handled and helped us to adjust his food issues. All of our questions and concerns were handled immediately with great results. Praise and thanks for the results!
