I recently adopted an older dog that had been confined for most of his life in a small cage at a puppy mill, or later, in a closet under s staircase in the house of the family who adopted him. While gentle and eager to please, he had a number of behavioral issues, nearly all of them connected with his fear of loud noises, sudden motions, open spaces, being outside and (above all) the sound of traffic. Almost immediately, I knew I needed to work with an animal behaviorist or dog trainer to learn how to help my new friend, but I also knew that not just anyone would work for him. It needed to be someone gentle, patient, and alert to the very subtle signals that my new friend communicated with. I was lucky enough to find Ian and Simpawtico at my first try. Ian is gentle intelligent, patient and observant. My dog responded to him right away. After only one session, Ian was able to frame my dog's issues in a way that allowed us to develop a sensible, humane plan for working with him. Now, step by step, things are improving. I would certainly recommend Ian to anyone who needs help learning to work with their dog, or who is working with a a dog with special needs. He has been just great with us!
