Hi Sarah. That's Resource Guarding, very common amongst Rotties. They tend to have elevated likelihood—it doesn't make them bad, we just need to help them see it's not a problem. So, start with our Resource Guarding PDF, which is free on our website: https://www.simpawtico-training.com/learning/downloadables/
Then, you may want to develop things like Leave It and Drop It if you haven't already. Leave It you can start very easily and we have a video for that on our YouTube here: https://youtu.be/Dt9sQDP3q50
Drop It is best taught while playing Tug, and there's a free resource for that on that same downloads page on the website.
Beyond that, if you need further help, you may want to set up a consultation with us. We can do in-studio or in-home if you're local; we can also do over Zoom if you live somewhere far from us. You can book right from the website!

Simpatico is a wonderful dog training facility. If you are unable to attend the actual training classes Ian Stone has You Tube videos and various class options that may meet your needs. No behavior is too big or unique for Ian. He is currently the trainer of our 2nd golden retriever, 6 month old - Cooper.
Do you offer therapy dog training and certification?
Hi Emma. Thanks for reaching out! We can do all the requisite training in preparation for certification, but we do not do the actual testing. We have evaluators we work with that we can help you get something arranged with, if you choose to work with us.

Hi Toni. Thanks for your question. Currently In-Home training is only offered on a case-by-case basis, and only for behavior problems such as aggression or reactivity. I'm not new to dog training. I'm bringing sibling Cavalier puppies home soon. I know sibling puppies can be problematic; I know I need to train/work with each of them individually. What advice would you give in this situation?

My first experience with a personal dog trainer if pertinent.
I have a 6 month old male Doberman that I’ve been training the basics. I used videos I found on YouTube and bought a book specific on Dobermans.
The scheduling was seamless and the preparation provided was great. I found Helen to be very personable and engaging. She asked the right questions and I feel she provided great tools to help me accomplish my goal. A well behaved large powerful dog. She was always on point. She likes her ‘job’ you can tell. Ranger liked her. He responded well to her. I learned a lot in the 60 minutes. Had great follow up and supportive training resources like videos and pdfs to read. Ian is great in the videos and I like his enthusiasm towards the inner workings of a dog’s behaviors. I learned much that I can apply to my training of Ranger. He liked the studio and Helen and has some training ahead of him. I strongly recommend.

I appreciated that Ian started with a tune-up of our foundational handling and engagement skills, and then in future sessions adapted to meet us where we were at with more targeted exercises. I also appreciated Ian's expertise working with rescue dogs and reading dog body language. The facility is very nice and our dog loved going there for sessions!
