Do you do in home training?
While all the training we provide is meant to be applicable in your home or any other environment, the majority of our training appointments take place at one of our two training facilities in Austin.

After offering Board & Train programs for many years, we discontinued those programs in lieu of more owner-involved options. We found that dogs and their humans saw greater long-term success when they trained together, rather than having the dog train on their own and making the owner play catch-up. Our Day Camp program is an excellent alternative to a Board & Train because while our trainers still get plenty of time to work with your pup, you get your dog back at the end of each day and can begin implementing your dog's new training in your home right from the start. This will help to avoid confusion for your dog and allow you an amazing bonding experience of learning together alongside your pup.

What guarantees do you offer regarding my dog being trained?
A guarantee of completion or success is impossible to provide when we are talking about living, thinking creatures. Your dog is not a robot, they have their own unique personality along with a life full of their own, personal experiences, as do you - their human! With that being said, what we can guarantee is that we will provide you with the tools, education, and support needed to ensure your dog can be successful in training. How long it takes will depend on several factors such as how consistent you are, what type of program you sign up for, etc, but we also promise to be there every step of the way with guidance and confidence that you'll be happy with your progress and results!

What is the consultation and do I have to schedule one?
The consultation is a free appointment to meet with one of our trainers and learn about what we have to offer. While not strictly necessary in most cases, it is highly recommended to schedule one so we can explain the details of how our training will work for your pup. It will also give you an opportunity to see our facility, learn about our Sit Means Sit training philosophy, and work with a trainer to put together a program designed around your specific goals. We want to make sure we're the perfect fit for your dog before you commit to anything.

The Sit Means Sit collar is a micro stim modality that is very similar to the micro stim units used in the medical and athletic fields. These micro stim units essentially use low-level, adjustable electronic stimulation to create a muscle contraction. In the medical field, they are used as aids to help alleviate pain, promote blood circulation and induce healing. For our SMS collar, an adjustable micro stim signal is manually sent from a remote, which translates into a “tap” delivered to the Sit Means Sit Collar. This tap starts at such a low level that it is often imperceptive to people. This signal from the Sit Means Sit collar is also adjustable in the same way that your voice is, and is completely controlled by you, the handler.

The unique Sit Means Sit training model uses Attention-Based Training to modify behaviors and teach dogs new skills and proper manners. This approach to training allows our Sit Means Sit Austin trainers to use a variety of attention-based modalities such as leashes, flat collars, food, toys, and our patented Sit Means Sit Collar.

Our training programs vary considerably from dog to dog and depending on your training goals and your lifestyle. They vary both in the structure and layout of our programs, as well as in the cost and duration of the training.
Each of our training programs is custom-tailored to your specific needs. To build you the right training package, we evaluate factors such as your dog’s age, temperament, previous training, your lifestyle, as well as your desired goals. What will work for one dog and owner won’t necessarily fit well with another. Because of these factors, we offer a free consultation as an opportunity to meet with your family and your dog to gain insight into the unique circumstances that affect your dog’s training.

It varies depending on the service, you can do board and trains, day trains, private sessions, or package deals for a year at a time with unlimited weekly and biweekly group sessions in that year. Been taking my pup for a few months, worth the money.

We have noticed a significant improvement in our dog's behavior since the very first lesson. Walking on a leash used to be a battle— getting the leash on and keeping him under control. It took at least a block to get him to focus and settle down. Now, he waits to go out the door, walks on a loose lease, and no longer drags us down the street. Amazing! Our trainer, Trish, is the best! Sit really does mean SIT!

Colby lead our class and we focused on some skills like place, come, down, and moving around other dogs. He does a great job of understanding each individual dog and helping when additional support it needed. We had a great time and Gretchen was worn out after because she was learning so much and growing her attention.

My corgi Milo has been going to Sit Means Sit for one on one dog training with Colby and Ashley. They are a amazing power couple! It was great to have one on one classes to really focus on Milo's issues and not just general training. It has been a month with Milo enrolled in training but so far Milo, my husband, and I, have learned a lot. Were learning on how to properly train Milo, and Milo's bad habits have been calming down at home and have calmed down at his doggy friends houses.

Group classes were great. They were very fun for me and my dog. She definitely had a lot of practice with her reactivity towards other dogs and I am already seeing so much improvement.

I found Mobi chained up to a fence next to my office space. He was around 8 months old. I was driving him to the animal shelter when my husband called me and said "Let's take him. Trust me." I was a for sure NO because as I was driving Mobi to the shelter in my 2-door Mini Cooper with the window rolled down, he leapt out the window, ran across the street to go chase down another dog. When I say he was a reactive, impulsive, crazy dog, I mean it. Obviously, we ended up taking him.
Mobi is my first dog, and I had zero experience in training dogs. After the 3rd day, I felt helpless. I looked online for help and found a Cesar Millan training video. I tried it on Mobi and to my great surprise and delight, he responded. Then, I realized, this dog is actually smart and quick.
But, Cesar Millan videos only went so far. After catching and killing 2 squirrels and being aggressive with a kid, I knew we had to do something more intense. That's when we found Sit Means Sit.
The e-collar training has changed all of our lives.
If I had known what was going to be required in order for me to really give Mobi what he needs, I don't know if I would have said yes to taking him. Because what was required was for ME to change. I'm the one in training. I have learned that Mobi is very smart and very quick to learn - I am the one who has to know how to train him - what to say, when to say it, the energy I'm holding inside of me, taking charge, understanding that he wants to be told what to do and given a job, understanding that he has mental, physical and emotional needs, and that when those needs get met, what an incredible dog he is. Just the best dog. I love him more every single day.
My husband and I are very grateful to everyone at Sit Means Sit. All of the trainers have given me, my husband and Mobi something to take home and work with. They are dedicated to helping people get in right relationship with their dogs. They all seem to truly love dogs and take their jobs seriously - while also having fun with it.
It is more expensive than some of the other training options around, but with the individual training and the group trainings (that last for a year), it is worth it. But, I would say that the most important thing is to remember - YOU are the one in training.
