Question on Google
Does this company use electric collars for training?

Yes.. however do your research when looking at all forms of training... When I was a client, they offered demonstrations and explanations so you can evaluate their methods.

Community answer · John Wagg · 2017-09-21

If you want a happy and healthy relationship with your dog you WILL come here! They saved my GSD's life. He came to us unsocialized at two years old, and he was terribly fear aggressive - other forms of training made him worse. Don't believe anyone who says collar training is harmful. PEOPLE are harmful - and those who misuse a collar, will misuse any other form of training too.

Community answer · Megan Fisher · 2018-09-21

I have found that electric collars get a bad reputation because of inappropriate use. Sit Means Sit teaches using the collar as an attention getter like a tap on the shoulder - not as punishment. A lot of praise and positive reinforcement is recommended. The dogs are happy and excited to learn and to please. My experience and observation confirms how humane this collar can be if used correctly.

Community answer · Sandra Papiez · 2018-09-21

Initially we were not too keen on a dog training place that used an e-collar but I did sign up for their training as they came highly recommended by many, to give us the results that we were looking for. And at the end of 3 weeks of intense training I can say we made the best decision ever. Each and every trainer was amazing and ensured that we understood (really ensured) how they worked our dog . The training gave us the necessary tools for us to feel confident with our dog in different scenarios.....this was gold. Would highly recommend spending the days off between training (even if it is a few minutes) to go over the commands introduced to your dog and share your challenges/wins with the trainers ,before the next class. The trainers were ever willing to help with any questions and provide solutions. It was a commitment for sure but a very rewarding one ,both for us and our dog.

Community answer · Arti Kesu · 2020-09-21

Clearly Phoebe has no experience with training collars. Our dog went to Sit Means Sit for training and I can't tell you how excited she gets when we get her collar out. Training for her is like play time and she loves it. I have tried the collar on personally and can tell you from first hand experience it does not hurt.

I brought my dog there in 2019.Terrible idea she is a Yorkie Pomeranian they convinced me they could really train him but used an E collar on him which I don’t believe you should do with little dogs like that. That’s not the right approach. He came home worse than when I brought his to them was scarfing down his food and eating his poop almost like they didn’t feed him enough he developed anxiety, and now he spins in circles all the time. All I wanted was some simple training skills sit stay come he learned none of that. Just came home A terrified dog.

I had my rescue trained about 8 years ago and was thrilled with her progress. Immersion training was great and group classes reinforced the learning. Classes were as helpful to me as they were for my dog. I live 3 hrs away now but called Nick asking for help/suggestions relating to a family members dog. Nick answered my questions and provided info to help with decisions/actions that are needed. I continue to trust Sit Means Sit. They are amazing with all dogs and people!

Nice place. Trainor very nice. However I will not use a shock collar on my dog. This was not a good fit for me or my dog.

We brought our 8 year old lab-aussie mix to Sit Means Sit day training. She's a good girl but had some nervous behavior and selective listening skills. We noticed a turn around in her behavior just after one class. After finishing her 6 classes she listens, happier and more confident. We are so proud of our sweet girl and thankful for all the kind people at Sit Means Sit.

I’ve been a customer for over five years, and I can’t say enough great things about Sit Means Sit. In 2025, I had to take a break from group classes due to a very busy work schedule. By January, it was clear how much we had missed it—my German Shepherd had started to slack off. She was less attentive to commands, began interpreting them her own way, and even picked up a few new habits I hadn’t seen before. Signing back up was the best decision! The difference has been incredible. I highly recommend Sit Means Sit, and especially Nick, Natalie, Meghan, and Ashley. They don’t just train the dogs—they truly train the owners too. I’ve learned so much, and it has made all the difference. My dog is off-leash often now, and I know that’s thanks to their dedication and expert training. Thank you all! And needless to say, I don’t think we’ll be taking another break anytime soon.
