Do you offer board and train programs?
At our Rochester Hills facility, we have a beautiful Immersion Inn for our board and train program. It's a clean, intimate setting, holding a maximum of 18 dogs. Our rooms at the Inn frequently book weeks in advance for our board and train programs. We have programs of different lengths, depending on the needs of your dog and family. A trainer will be happy to discuss the options with you during your free consultation.

Does this company use electric collars for training?
Yes.. however do your research when looking at all forms of training... When I was a client, they offered demonstrations and explanations so you can evaluate their methods.

If you want a happy and healthy relationship with your dog you WILL come here! They saved my GSD's life. He came to us unsocialized at two years old, and he was terribly fear aggressive - other forms of training made him worse.
Don't believe anyone who says collar training is harmful. PEOPLE are harmful - and those who misuse a collar, will misuse any other form of training too.

I have found that electric collars get a bad reputation because of inappropriate use. Sit Means Sit teaches using the collar as an attention getter like a tap on the shoulder - not as punishment. A lot of praise and positive reinforcement is recommended. The dogs are happy and excited to learn and to please. My experience and observation confirms how humane this collar can be if used correctly.

Initially we were not too keen on a dog training place that used an e-collar but I did sign up for their training as they came highly recommended by many, to give us the results that we were looking for. And at the end of 3 weeks of intense training I can say we made the best decision ever. Each and every trainer was amazing and ensured that we understood (really ensured) how they worked our dog . The training gave us the necessary tools for us to feel confident with our dog in different scenarios.....this was gold. Would highly recommend spending the days off between training (even if it is a few minutes) to go over the commands introduced to your dog and share your challenges/wins with the trainers ,before the next class. The trainers were ever willing to help with any questions and provide solutions. It was a commitment for sure but a very rewarding one ,both for us and our dog.

Clearly Phoebe has no experience with training collars. Our dog went to Sit Means Sit for training and I can't tell you how excited she gets when we get her collar out. Training for her is like play time and she loves it. I have tried the collar on personally and can tell you from first hand experience it does not hurt.

Maisie our bloodhound has attended Sit Means Sit for almost a year now, starting with their Puppy Classes last December 2024 and then the Immersion Board and Training Class in spring of 2025.
I can't begin to praise Nick and his team of amazing trainers. We back up to woods and a few weeks ago a herd of 7 deer came out of the woods running across our neighbor's yard. Maisie took off after them before I even saw the deer. Using her e-collar and calling her to come, she turned around and came back to me. I was truly amazed! She can be very stubborn when she gets a scent being a bloodhound.
Thank you so much Sit Means Sit for teaching me be a better owner and giving me the confidence that I can handle an 80-pound bloodhound maybe not like a pro but I am learning.

I have 4 dogs that have been trained with sit means sit over the past 14 years. I currently have a 9 month old puppy that completed day training and I am now attending group classes weekly. My puppy and I never stop learning. All of my dogs have been successful with this training. I highly recommend Sit Means Sit for a reliable and successful training experience. Worth every penny of investment for years of enjoyment with a well trained dog.
I would like to update my review from 2 years ago. I am still attending group classes with my now 3 year old dog. We have achieved many milestones by continually working with Sit Means Sit (Canine good citizen and trick dog to name a few). The time and investment made have more than paid off with an exceptionally trained dog.

Mosley and I love Sit Means Sit. I have only had Mosley since January of 2023 and instantly knew I had to get him into training. Mosley is very dog reactive and feels the need to greet and play with every dog and human he sees! Thanks to Sit Means Sit, we can now go on walks without Mosley even looking at the other dogs we pass. In addition, never did I think I would be able to walk Mosley off leash but now he is rarely ever leashed due to the amazing training SMS gave both Mosley and I. The best part about SMS is the continuous training you do in group classes, as well as the amazing trainers. Monica, Natalie, and Nick have always been willing to answer any questions and help when we are struggling. Thank you SMS for giving us the training and support we needed to live a happy life together!
Update: Mosley and I have been coming to SMS for almost 2 years. During this time we are both continuously learning with each other, and growing our bond. The community and support we found at SMS is unlike anything else. Not only has the SMS community supported us through our training, they have also introduced me to so many new things I can do with Mosley to grow our bond, such as Go Team Therapy Dogs, dock diving and agility. We love being apart of the SMS pack!

We participated in puppy class; immersion training and group classes. We are 1.5 years into group classes and very happy with the results! Jerry loves going to class and it’s fun to see the other dogs. We are very pleased with our instructors and their knowledge that they bring to class! Very nice community of dog families!

I’ve been bringing my dog Xander to Sit Means Sit since he was just 9.5 months old—he’s now almost 4! At 120 lbs, his obedience is truly impressive, and because of this program, we have the kind of freedom together I always hoped for. Whether it’s visiting barns or being part of our GoTeam Therapy Dogs program, the solid foundation we built here has made all of that possible.
I love the flexibility they offer—anything from large packages of group classes to simple drop-in options—so it’s easy to keep up with training at every stage. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the trainers strike the perfect balance of encouragement and challenge. They’ve always been available to answer questions, offer direction, and give us that extra push when we needed it.
Thanks to Sit Means Sit, I not only have a well-mannered Cane Corso, but also a true partner who can confidently go anywhere with me. I’m so grateful for this program and can’t imagine a better company for dog training!
