It was pure luck that we found Juan. Two years ago, we saw an extremely well-trained dog on a walk and knew we had to save his info. When we got our new puppy last year; who was struggling with some behavioral issues and anxiety, I contacted Juan after we had few failed attempts at training him ourself and at Petco. During our very first meeting, he showed us a technique that stopped our puppy’s excessive indoor barking in just a few days. We knew right then we were in the right hands. Over the next 11 weeks, Juan helped our puppy build confidence and worked through his anxiety issues. The difference between our puppy then and now is truly night and day. While we know the journey continues on our end, Juan has given us all the tools and tips we need to succeed. He is patient, a great listener, and truly understands both the owner and the dog. I cannot recommend him enough; you and your pet are in excellent hands!

So happy to have connected with Juan Mendoza of Elite Dog Training. We have a rescue dog that needed more help with his reactivity to other dogs. He was like a piñata on a string when he saw other dogs. We live near a park and often saw groups of dogs together in what appeared to be a class. The dogs were sitting in circles and walking around each other all calm and nonreactive. This was my dream. Then one day walking with my husband from a coffee shop we passed a woman walking her dog and could tell it had good training. I complimented her and found out her dog is a part of that group. We got the information, called right away, and now have a dog that has so greatly improved. No more piñata on a string. We can now manage him and have continued to gain the skills we need to help him overcome his reactivity. And yes, he got to join the pack in their exercise and handled himself so well. Juan was incredible to work with. He didn’t just train our dog Ruby, he trained all four of us. Ruby was just about a year old when we started working with him, and she’s a Belgian Malinois, Shar Pei, and Husky mix, so she’s smart, strong, and full of energy. In just one session, Juan completely changed Ruby’s mouthy behavior, which truly amazed us. Juan has a great ability to read dog behavior. He helped us understand Ruby’s reactions to other dogs and how to calmly manage those situations with confidence. He was also extremely helpful with leash walking and exposing us to real-life situations so we could continue building good habits at home. We highly recommend Juan and look forward to continuing our training journey with him.

Highly recommend SJ Elite Dog Trainin! Juan tailors each session based on training goals and our dog’s needs - mostly training at home, and going outdoors or around other dogs when distractions are needed. His approach is calm, gentle, and consistent, which worked perfectly for our energetic but sometimes stubborn dog. After completing the first phase of obedience training, our dog went from pulling on leash and getting distracted by other dogs to walking nicely on leash, heeling without pulling, and staying calm during on-leash greetings. Juan focuses on clear, consistent rules without being harsh, while helping strengthen the bond between dog and owner. He’s also very responsive over text whenever questions come up. Overall, our dog is now much more controllable and well behaved, even in busy environments. We’re able to travel confidently with her - including a month in Hawaii, where she was frequently complimented on her behavior.

We finished our first set of classes and Juan is an amazing trainer! He walks you step by step through each session. Juan is so positive and patient with our pup and is extremely knowledgeable. Any problem or questions is dealt with calmly and efficiently. Our pup has learned so much as also we have. We look forward to each week for a new lesson and we can’t thank Juan enough for all he Does for us.
