Smart Dogs Training & Lodging

Our family has had many positive experiences with Smart Dogs since we found them six years ago, shortly after Cali, then a 2 ½ year-old standard poodle, joined our family. Initially, we were only looking to board her for a week while we were out of town. But, after learning about Smart Dogs board & train program, we decided to include the training in hopes of eliminating some of her bad habits and possibly helping her acquire some new skills. At the end of the 10-day program, Ian & Kristy demonstrated the skills that Cali had learned and explained language and prompts we should use at home to reinforce her new skills and prevent the bad habits from returning. After bringing her home, we were pleasantly surprised how well she responded with the techniques they taught us. The training program at Smart Dogs significantly improved the quality of our home life with Cali and our ability to keep her safe when outside the home. We eventually took Cali back to Smart Dogs for boarding when we went out of town for an extended length of time. We knew she would be safe and well-cared for and would enjoy her stay at the luxurious dog “resort.” The cost was worth the peace of mind it gave us when we had to be away from her. We had six wonderful years with Cali, but were devastated when she passed away this year. We hoped to eventually find another dog that could bring back some of the joy we were missing in our daily lives. Our hearts filled with joy once again when we found Milo, a 7 month-old goldendoodle, who needed a new home when he grew much bigger and harder to manage than his original owners expected. He was a sweet boy but had some bad habits and was almost impossible to walk with on a leash. We knew Smart Dogs could help Milo learn basic skills that would ultimately make our lives easier and more enjoyable. We dropped him off for the 10-day board & train program and hoped for the best. Although we missed Milo, we thoroughly enjoyed the daily text updates on his progress, along with photos of him from each day. It was obvious that he was happy and having fun during his training at Smart Dogs. When Milo completed the program and came home with us, we immediately noticed how much better he listened when we used the language and prompts they taught us at pick up. Best of all, we were finally able to walk with him on a leash. Two weeks later, Ian came to our home for a follow-up visit to check on Milo's progress. He answered all of our questions and offered additional training tips, even taking time to demonstrate how to implement them. I really appreciated the follow up visit and believe it shows how Smart Dogs truly cares for the dogs they work with and their commitment to ensuring continued success after the dogs return home to their families. I highly recommend Smart Dogs for both training and boarding and will definitely be taking Milo back the next time we have to travel without him. We are thankful to Smart Dogs for helping improve the quality of our lives with our beloved four-legged family members.

We boarded our 5-month old puppies for the 30-day training school, and we are so happy we did it! Our pups absolutely love Ian, and he did a fantastic job. Went we send them to Smart Dogs, they were still having accidents, pulled the leash, didn’t listen to commands and chewed everything. They came back so well behaved, and Ian gave us the tools we needed to continue the training at home. They came back potty trained, excellent walkers, listen to commands and are great with people, kids and other dogs. They will even ride along our bikes or go on our treadmill. We would do this again, and next time we adopt puppies it’s no question, they will go to Smart Dogs Training!

I have a doberman that Ian has been helping me train since she was 5 months old. She is now 17 months. I also have a 6 year old Jack Chi and a 4 year old miniature schnauzer. The training process has been great, especially since they come to your home. I get many compliments on how well mannered my dogs are. Even from people that are afraid of dogs. I can walk all 3 without being pulled. He has left me with very detailed instructions on how to daily work with them all so I can consistency with them. Kristy has been responsive with any question I have about my crew. I am planning to use Smart Dog Training for advanced training for my doberman to keep her mind sharp. I recommend them to anyone with doggies.

Donga, my Rhodesian Ridgeback had to spend some time at a Boarding & Training facility. He was less than a year old, but I had an accident and ended up needing 2 major shoulder surgeries. Donga and Ian got along great. His first stay he graduated with a College Degree. His second stay was much more rigorous, but Kristy and Ian did such a great job with Donga, he graduated with a Masters Degree.
