I chose Stuart at Southeast Off Leash in Chattanooga, TN, for the 4-week Board and Train Master's Obedience program about a year after adopting our Dutch Shepherd, a breed closely related to the Belgian Malinois. During that first year, I researched several training programs, read countless reviews, and spoke with multiple dog trainers before deciding on Stuart. In the end, Southeast Off Leash offered the best value for the level of training and support provided to my family and I. Prior to training most people who met our dog already thought she was well behaved, but that was largely because I was the one handling her or in the room. I knew she was capable of so much more, especially when it came to listening to and working confidently with my daughters. Stuart not only helped take her obedience to the next level, but he also gave our entire family the tools and confidence to communicate with her consistently and effectively. In fact, Stuart extended the program by an additional week because he wanted to make sure she got the most out of her training. The weather during that month limited opportunities to work through certain distractions, and he wanted to ensure she was fully prepared before coming home. That level of commitment really stood out to me because as a business owner he put his reputation first instead of just collecting a payment. When we brought her home, the biggest challenge wasn't our dog it was getting my family on the same page with the commands, markers, and training techniques. She clearly understood what Stuart was asking of her, but we had to learn how to communicate with her the same way. To ease this transition Stuart gave us his cheat sheet guide to all the commands that he was using with her which has helped immensely. Like any training program, consistency at home is essential. A couple of weeks later, we were still struggling with a few commands, so we met back up with Stuart. My 7 and 9-year old daughters explained the issues she was having, and he immediately recognized what needed to change. We followed his suggestions, and the difference was incredible. Today, my 9-year old daughter confidently walks a dog that is far stronger and more powerful than she is, and it regularly amazes our neighbors. What I appreciate most about Southeast Off Leash is that Stuart takes the time to explain every step of the process. He doesn't just tell you what to do he explains the reasoning behind it and the goals he's working toward, so you understand how to continue building on your dog's success at home. I couldn't be happier with the results. This business is far more than a sit, laydown, and walk next you dog trainer. First he shows that the dog can obey anyone not just you, secondly he gets the dog set in the task at hand regardless of distractions, thirdly beyond the excellent dog training, I also have peace of mind knowing that if I ever run into a behavioral issue or have questions in the future, Stuart is only a phone call away. Bandit & Nikki are miniature Australian Shepherds (brother & sister) that were much more interested in playing and wrestling than listening. Once they escalated to running off a large property and getting into trouble, we knew intervention was needed. Stuart wasn't put off by these littermates and had an immediate game plan about how to approach their training, separately and then together. Both methods were necessary, because each dog is the other's biggest distraction. We did board and train, and the dogs learned so much in a few short weeks. You could tell by Stuart's video updates that they were also having fun! He even kept them a little bit longer to make sure he felt both were at their best (Nikki was very stubborn in the beginning). There's a graduation session at the end where Stuart goes over all the commands he taught your dog and shows you how to communicate with them going forward. Consistency and repetition at home are keys to longterm success. The most important commands for us were "come" and "heel," and it's been a pleasure to see these two unruly pups grow into a pair of dogs who can safely run free. Stuart made it happen, and on top of that, both dogs adore him. He's such a great guy, and our whole family made a new friend in the process.

Stuart and Southeast off Leash was an amazing choice for our golden retriever, Topher! Topher was in a little bit of a defiant stage when we turned to Stuart. The difference before and after training with Stuart is shocking and we could not be happier with the results. Stuart was also very communicative throughout the whole process. We felt very comfortable that Topher was in a great place where he was completely cared for and loved during his time away from us.
